Just a quick note to Ian. Not just in UK, but we here in Australia also use the initials ECG, as in ElectroCardioGraph. In America, what does the K stand for?

Hello, I was told three years ago that I need a PM. I had been ill for about a year and when my HR dropped to 39 I went to the doctor. After many tests he said I need a PM, other than that you are one of my healthiest patients. Not wanting the PM I said not yet. My symptoms over the next year were up and down. Back to the doc, he said "just get the PM", I said I feel there is another problem and I want to rule everything else out first. More tests and still, other than the slow HR, I'm very hea...

Just had a Medtronic pacemaker implanted on 8-5-13. Just received from Medtronic a home monitoring device. Will Medicare and AARP/UnitedHealthcare pay for the monitoring device and monitoring?

Hi all my good friends
I have been using pm's since 1987 and have been told that I need a new one. This will be my 4th. I have been told that my cardiologist has to sort out which type to have. 2 leads where left in situ from my 2nd one, if I have to have another one, will the leads be left in situ again, 2 leads in my left shoulder and 2 leads in my right shoulder plus the new ones. Errrrrr wish we have wireless ones here.
Does this entail my age, condition or whateve...

I had my procedure done on Wed. This is so different than the regular ICD. I can see and feel the difference! Doctor had to put in two new leads.I'm feeling better and can tell the difference in how I feel. It will be working 24/7.(better be anyhow). I'm good except for being sore. I will really have to watch myself because I can't move my arm above my head or lift over 10# for 6 weeks! A nurse there said I'll be an invalid for that long. My wife will have to open my salsa jars!

Hello, My name is Rachel Jorawar. I'm 18 years old, at the age of 16 I was diagnosed with restrictive cardiomyopathy, I've had it all my life but no one knew. one day I was walking with my friend, next
minute I'm on the ground. next day the doctors at st Joseph hospital tell me that I have a huge hole in my heart and other problems, so they sent me to at Christopher's in Philadelphia where they tried to close the hole but it was unsuccessful, my mom didn't want to tell me right away that I...

My name is Megan. I am currently 26 years old. Life has been different for me. Not so much a bad thing, just different. School activities didn't last long, and I was asleep half of my teenage years or so it felt like. My story starts off at the young age of two. Back in 1989, a giggly little girl ended up sick with a virus. Little did my mom know soon she would have a sick two year old with a Type I and Type II Second Degree heart block. Although for the next 14 years I remained asymptomatic, on...

Hello everyone
I recently received PM on 8/9/13 on an emergency. I was so surprised but grateful. I actually fainted in my rheumatologist office and was rushed to hospital. I could not believe what was happening to me but I had those same feelings for years thinking it was my sugar level or perhaps my arthritis or fibromyalgia. I mean I am in my early 40's so I get the comments on young. I have difficulty sleeping, concerned about getting back to work since I patrol drive around for a...

I found this site while lying in bed recovering from my first ICD implant. Feeling kinda scared and sad, so I was happy to find a site like this where I can read about the experiences of others and how they are dealing with it.
Aloha from Hawaii.

I'm wondering how the chat feature works. I always see a number of folks listed that are in chat but when I enter; there is no conversation? Can someone tell me how it works? Thanks.
Thank you!

Someone, and I don't remember who, posted that they were told to take several deep breaths before walking upstairs as they were getting short of breath with that activity. I believe the poster was in her 80's.
There is one hill on my long runs that had been my nemesis both before and after the pm. Well last Sunday I took several deep breaths before sprinting up it and made it to the top! Had to stop and catch my breath at the top but I got up there without stopping for the first time ever...

And I'm just venting! BUT my scar is so dry, itchy and it stings and burns. The last several days; any type of material that touches it is very irritating! It's really starting to annoy me! On top of that; after a couple of hours sitting at my desk at work, my left shoulder and neck tend to get stiff. I do get up and walk around but it doesn't really help much. When I get home I tend to feel better becasue I can make myself comfortable. Sorry guys - I'm grumpy today (:

Hi everyone -
My name is Amy and I recently had a PM inserted on an ER basis due to Heart Block. I am 40 years old and not feeling really good about it. I am having a hard time trying to feel "NORMAL" again. Comments from others about me being to young for a PM does not help. It almost makes me feel like they feel that I must have done something wrong for this to happen to me at such a young age. I was just wondering if anyone else can give advice on how long it will take to adjust (me...

My St. Jude is malfunctioning and the EP mentioned replacing it with a Sorin. I have asked around and no one seems to have heard of them. My fear is lack of Sorin Reps nearby. I did find a few old post that stated they were/are a good PM. Any thoughts now several years later? Thanks in advance..

I posted earlier today basically saying us older folk (I'm 83) are not as chipper as some of you. I guess the note was precipitated by the fact I have been feeling all over lousy most of the time, not necessarily having to do with PM. Had appointment with GP today he said I have textbook gallbladder symptoms and to prepare for a HIDA scan and subsequent surgery. So that is another example of mind and matter. My body knew something was wrong and my brain was reacting to this unknown and letting m...
