Boston Scientific PM

I am scheduled to have my Medtronic PM replaced with a Boston Scientific. Has anyone had experience with Boston Scienfific? Pros, Cons. Thanks.

same

You should feel about the same! Both are excellent companies. Occasionally there are features that differentiate one from another, but usually any of them will do the job so the drs go with the ones they personally like the best, the one they have the best relationship with.

Medtronic is larger and has more reps than Boston. Not a big deal most of the time but if you live in a rural area it could potentially be an issue. The odds of this happening to someone else are pretty slim but I know someone who had BS, lived in a rural area, had some unusual complications. There was only one BS rep avail to her and he was pretty clueless. She traveled 4 hrs to a larger city for better care, eventually switched to Medtronic because they had more reps locally.

Why are they switching you? I've always requested to stay with the same type because I love my rep, another company would mean another rep.

Thanks

TraceyE, I think it's like you said, drs go with the ones they personally like best. He just told me he doesn't use Medtronic and now uses BS. Since I live in a large city (Dallas, TX) it shouldn't be an issue. Anyway, I hope not. This one is supposed to last 10 yrs. and have all the "bells and whistles" and will soon have capability to send telephonic reports via cell phone. We'll see how that goes. Thanks for your input.

Betcha it's something between him and the Medtronics reps! There isn't much you can't find in Dallas, you'll be fine with BS.

1st was a Guidant who if I understand it right BS bought Guidant & next 1 was Guidant & now #3 BS. I have had no problems with #2 now #3. 1st one had some problems but I understand it was a lead problem EP pulled that lead out after 2.5 yrs & put in new lead & PM #2 & been golden since (10 yrs & going strong). So hope that helps you.

It is probably what the hospital uses, just guessing. My ICD was BS and now the CRT-D also is. Different docs but the same supplier.
