Someone, and I don't remember who, posted that they were told to take several deep breaths before walking upstairs as they were getting short of breath with that activity. I believe the poster was in her 80's.
There is one hill on my long runs that had been my nemesis both before and after the pm. Well last Sunday I took several deep breaths before sprinting up it and made it to the top! Had to stop and catch my breath at the top but I got up there without stopping for the first time ever.
Might seem like a small thing to you but it was a big deal to me. Made me grateful for this site and the person who posted that. I'm smiling to think that my best coaching tip for my next marathon came from a pacemaker patient in her/his 80's! God bless you for posting that!

Hi I live in the Midwest and so far have only attempted half marathons. Maybe if I had started running when I was young... Or maybe now that i have a pacemaker I can think about a full marathon. Grew up in Maine and visit family there whenever I can. Love the Red Sox too! When I ran the Nashville half marathon in April I didn't know I had double pneumonia or that I needed a pm, just that I was struggling. Boston strong was the mantra that got me to the finish line, for all those who didn't get to finish Boston this year. Not fast at all but I finished. I just live tapping into the wisdom here.
I'm not sure..

I know Smitty is in his 80's, but I'm not sure if he posted that or not. You can search his postings by his name and see if it's him. I hope this helps.

Good for you!

May a couple of good deep breaths get you up and over all the hills in the future!!
You know you're wired when...
You have an excuse for gaining an extra ounce or two.

Today I explained everything to my doctor, he set my lower rate back to 80 and I felt an immediate improvement.

That is one of the great things about this site. You read and absorb and then one day when you are having difficulty, you remember what someone said helped them and you try it and hopefully it works for you too. And then you give thanks.
I would guess you do or have lived in Boston, both from your name and mention of a marathon. I am from Boston and since leaving at 18, I have made trips back every year. Love the city, its spirit and the Red Sox. Not the Celtics because I am a Laker fanatic. Appreciated your response to my last message. Thanks.
