Going Camping Again

The weather has turned beautiful here. Warm, calm, full moon in the desert. Can't resist heading out for some outdoor relaxation. I expect to be back Wednesday.

Hope none of you are in the path of hurricane Sandy.

Full Body Scanner Images

I travel a lot for business and except for the last few months, almost every time I've gone through a full body scanner I've been asked if I'm wearing a neckless. Only ONCE did the TSA person ask if I had a PM. She said it depended on the skill of the person reading the image, which made sense. But for the past 6-8 times I've gone through those machines, not once have I been asked the neckless question. So people are getting better at reading PMs, or maybe there is no one looking at all.

Improved Pacemaker -- TIC

Improved Pacemaker -- TIC

I've had a pacemaker now for better than 5 weeks and have found my health to be a big improvement. They certainly are great pieces of equipment; however, seems to me that, given that PMs have become so sophisticated and are now wifi controlled, they could make some real additions to them in the future.

Given external wifi control, my first suggestion is that they include an alarm clock in the PM. Think of the advantage of not having to carry an...

Inappropriate sinus tachycardia

Hi everyone,

I am new to the boards. I love exercising - and have always strived to get into better shape, but that has always been elusive. I did a sprint triathlon about a year ago, and work out almost everyday, but I have never been able to make any gains in my cardiovascular fitness, base heart rate wouldn't come down and my rate would rachet up so quickly with minimal exertion. In August, I had an ablation for SVT. I thought that would solve all my issues. Sadly it didn't -...

Telling young children about PM's.

Hi,

I last posted just after my baby received his pacemaker at 5 days old. The help and support I received was invaluable and helped me through a very tough time. My little boy is 7 months old now and is amazing! He's doing really well, so well in fact that it does occasionally slip my mind about his PM. He's got a 6 month check up next month and as odd as it may sound I'm looking forward to it. It will be nice to see the cardiologist & nurses who looked after me so while I was pregna...

question for angrysparrow

Looking at your shoutout, I am curious, do you wear a medic alert? One of the main reasons I wear one is because not all emergency rooms are equipped to handle pm/icd, so seeing a medic alert (theoretically, of course) affects where they transport us so we don't end up in a facility that can't deal with it. I guess I'm curious to know if the alert worked like it was supposed to. Sorry you had that experience, hope you are ok now.

PM and Jugular swelling

Two weeks after getting pacemaker (Oct.5/12), I have jugular vein distention. The jugular vein on the left side near the pm is swollen. I had ultra sound done in the area and they seemed to find some clotting in the cephalic vein where the pm leads are. I was told to increase my warfarin as it was only 1.8 INR.

The doctor seemed to think that I should have some soreness in my left arm, but I do not. It seems to me that for the jugular to swell that there would have to be some blockage...

Wonder?

I have posted before, and thank you for all of your answers. I still need to clear a few things up and I was wondering about - Has anyone heard of a person who may have had a second heart attack? After my heart attack and ICD was installed May of 2011, I no longer smoke (2 paks before), decaf coffee, no sugar, no fat, turkey-chicken-fish only and lots of potatos. Salads everyday. Exercise everyday. My echo shows everything upper side of normal, and my INJECTION FACTOR is 67%. I just wanted to th...

Diet and the heart

For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.

1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Brits

2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Brits.

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Brits.

4. The Italians drink a...

just a question

Morning everyone,
I know I have read in the past posts that a lot of you there thought that you are very healthy so PM implant is really unexpected....I thought so too!
My question is...does anyone had a feeling that your immune system have gone weak after the pm implant or is it just me thinking this way?
It's flu season and I know a lot of people got sick nowadays.
I barely got cold/flu in my life (one of the reason for thinking I'm healthy!)....I don't even remember havin...

Upgrade pacemaker

Hi IMy daughter is 17 years old, with complete hear block. He got a dual chamber pacemaker at 13 years. Her consultant wants to upgrade her pacemaker due to low exercise tolerance well below that of someone her age and in case the dual chamber will cause heart damage in the future due to the slight delay in heart beat synchronisation across her heart. She does get on with normal life, though no sports and does get tired easily. She is paced 100% and totally dependent on it. He is proposing to...

Helllooooo and Welcome

The Pacemaker Club is a fine assortment of people from many different countries and walks of life as well as many ages... from infants (parents type for them) to senior citizens. (We can type for ourselves), but I tend to leave out w...
