Hi everyone,
I am new to the boards. I love exercising - and have always strived to get into better shape, but that has always been elusive. I did a sprint triathlon about a year ago, and work out almost everyday, but I have never been able to make any gains in my cardiovascular fitness, base heart rate wouldn't come down and my rate would rachet up so quickly with minimal exertion. In August, I had an ablation for SVT. I thought that would solve all my issues. Sadly it didn't - now I don't have pulse rates of 260, but my base heart rate hasn't changed and I am still having exercise intolerance. My EP said that it would help to wear a holter monitor to get a sense of what was happening. My average heart rate was 91, but I think my exercise regimen and level of fitness keep it relatively low. The monitor's results showed that I was actually in tachycardia during all waking hours. The EP wants to wait for a few more months before diagnosing me with IST and that's okay I guess. I maintain that I have always had this, since adolescence. I am on a beta blocker to lower my heart rate. Probably will test again in a few months. Would really like to try to drug ivabradine - wish it was improved in the states. I would welcome input from anyone experiencing this. I think my exercise has masked that I have IST. Just wish the doctors understood this.
Many thanks - so glad I found this group!

Melanie,
I was also diagnosed with IST about a year a and half ago, in feb and april they did ablations that was unsuccesful my heart rate was still hitting 140s and not going under 100. In july my ep dr sent me to another dr in chicago which is fantastic, after an 8 hr surgery they did an epicardial ablation wich after they finally found the area my heart rate went into the 30s so I ended up with a pacemaker at the age of 36. I felt really good and so much better for a short time, lately I have been having bad episodes of palpatations, dizziness, and feeling really exhausted. I was just diagnosed yesterday with junctional rythem. They put me on some meds to see if it will help my with my experience I will probably end up having to have an av node ablation so will then have to get a different pacer. I hope this helps some. Please let me know if I can help you in any way and feel free to send me a private message!
