Further to messages from donr, jerryG and IAN MC re tooth extraction, hubby has had hospital consultation re having 3 teeth removed and surprised that they have not told him to stop his warfarin before the procedure.his inr is usually 2.7 and I can't believe that in USA they like your inr around 1 when they remove teeth.the dentist today said as long as it is under 4 they are ok with it.they will test inr at hospital on morning before having teeth out and give him instructions when he goes home if...

New member of the Club

Hi,
Just had my first pacemaker fitted a week ago, and found this website today. I felt I was a bit young (at 51) to be needing a pm, but reading this site has shown me I am far from the youngest!

I was not looking forward to the operation- the very idea of being operated on under local anaesthetic - but it went alright on the day.
I'm an electronics engineer and have been looking into the details of my device (Medtronics A3DR01). It looks to be one of the latest designs...

Also I would like to know is it still possible to go away on holiday ,all the usual sort of stuff . I'm really scared and worried about the impact this will have on everyday life . I already have a pacemaker icd which I think paces me all the time . Thankyou

smoking pot with a pacemaker?

So I got my pacemaker 15 days ago, I am not saying I want to smoke pot anytime soon but can I smoke with my pacemaker. I don't care for judgment and how it makes you lazy blah.blah.blah but could I smoke pot ever again? My pacemaker works 100% of the time because I have such a low heart rate. I did to much molly which is upper and a club drug. Which is return made me go into 3rd degree heart block.. :( I need to smoke pot because I can't handle this on my own

breaking up adhesions from scar tissue?

I have had my second PM for about 5 years now. It is not as deeply planted as my first one. In fact it is barely under the skin and I can easily feel its surface and the leads coming out of the top. Like many others in here I was having sharp little pains when I moved my upper body and when I rolled onto my left side at night. The sensation would be a feeling of tightness and either prickly or sharp pain. Well the past couple of months I have stuck to a careful exercise routine at the gym at le...

21 and getting wired

Hello everyone,

About a year ago, I began having serious problems with falling into dizzy spells and waking up in the middle of the night, covered in sweat and heart racing. After a year of tests to rule out thyroid issues or sleep apnea, the doctors told me last month that I would need to 1) get an EP study done and have an ablation and 2) have a pacemaker put in. This was not fun to hear at 21 years old.

I had the EP study done Monday. The doctor could not find the issue...

For young heart

You ask if you are the youngest pm owner at 21. I think not. When the doctor told me I needed a pm at age 68' I began to cry and told him I was too young for a pm. In a disgusted tone he said: "Do you know who is the youngest pm recipient?" Of course I answered No. He retorted "In the womb." This should make your day.

exercise

Hello everyone,
I just joined today for a number of reasons. One, is so I can have contact with other PM people. Two, to hear about other peoples' experiences and problems they may experience. And three, to not feel so alone and weird.
I have had my pace maker for quite awhile, almost ten years and have had no issues. However, in the last two months I have had some bad experiences with exercise and this couldn't even qualify as 'exercise' per se -its simply walking up a hill or into...

MRI

My pm is not MRI compatible. A year ago I needed one as I had a TIA but had to make do with a CT scan. Fortunately all was well although I was told an MRI would have been better. My question is, what happens if I were to really need an MRI, for example if I had a stroke? I am 100% paced in atrium, but not too much in the ventricle.

Preparing for implantation

I have had all the tests and seen two different Cardiologists. Both agree I am a candidate for PM. I will have it done the end of Feb. I am a full time RVer and drive my own 32' motorhome. I have been told I will not be able to drive for 2 weeks. I'm wondering what other's may have experienced in this regard? Both as to driving and traveling. Thank you

Pulmonary Hypertension

After years of shortness of breath, fatigue, chest pain, edema, 50% artery blockage, aortic stenosis, mitral regurgitation and pacemaker insertion for bradycardia, a cardiac cath today shows I have pulmonary hypertension. Anyone familiar with this heart-lung issue and can offer insight, experience and help with a list of questions to ask the cardiologist at my appointment next week. I am quite shocked as I expected the cath to show increased blockage or need for valve repair. This diagnosis c...

New here but not to a pacemaker/icd

Hi I'm Val

New here as my title says. I've had a pacemaker since I was 3. Now at 40, I'm on #8. I was born with complete congenital heart block, and basically had to get big enough for a pacer. (1977) I've had replacements at ages 7,9,16,26,31,35 and 39. I've outgrown the lead wires, had paces short out, batteries die, wires drive thru the wall of my heart, and as a added bonus the dr in June during a replacement tore my rotator cuff! So pretty much had it all. In 2004 I added to the...

Adrenaline

Some things I don't think through until I am face to face with the issue. So my wife's Step-Dad, whom we both love very, very dearly, is on his death bed (probably within days) with a body filled with cancer. Doctors say "there is nothing more" they can do. Also, my wife and I have a near 24 year old son whose life (by our standards) is a train wreck. So when my wife's cell phone woke us both from a very deep sleep at 1:30 this morning, you can imagine the immediate thoughts racing through...

getting closer to test day,

Went for blood work today, (walk in lab) getting worried/concerned again. still 10 days till EPS. Looking at my heart rate data with the halter monitor and my Garmin I have approx 120 of data low of 30 high of 90, average for 120 hours is 43.5. The heart rate was taken at different time over the last 7 weeks. This is the actual avg for toatal hours not a guess. I guess it really does not mean much except my heart rate is slow till the test is done, however from what I've read it is looking like...

Feeling Ugly :(

25 year old girly in the uk.... Had my pacemaker fitted last Thursday. Was told by the docs to go out for atleast thirty mins to an hr per day for a walk about. As my chest is still sore its less painful when I leave it on show and don't cover it....also the cold air is soothing for it..... why on earth do people feel the need to constantly stare at me? Its hard enough getting used to a scar without narrow minded people making you feel worse :(
