Totally Baffled

Hi group,

Only found this site after surfing the net for information regarding PM's. Last may I had an ECG where it picked up my Bradycardia (36bpm at that test). I am 50yo and an avid runner with a few endurance runs under my belt.

After months of putting off a visit to my cardiologist, my mortality was put into question by the death of a friend who was not dissimilar to me.

After an Echo, Holt monitor for 3 days and an incline stress test, all that was found w...

Hematoma

Hi. Just found a golf ball size hard lump two inches from incision site. Wednesday made two weeks since my pacemaker was put in. Went to ER said was a hematoma and to watch to see if shifts and gets bigger. Has anyone else experienced this? Kinda worried because it's hard and kinda big. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks.

BPM - Beats Per Minute & Sleep

Most of my life I was in good physical condition; my heart rate was in mid 50s at rest and sleeping through the night was never a problem. Since PM pacing began 2 + years ago (set at 70 BPM) I wake every 50 to 60 minutes each and every night. I have asked the Doc several times since the pacing began 2 + years ago that maybe lowering the 70 BPM setting would help me sleep through the night? Doc says NO! You Need The 70 BPM and wont give an explanation why 70 BPM is necessary. So I am living wit...

3rd Degree AV Block-No Pacer

My 47 y/o sister was diagnosed 3rd degree AV block when she was about 25. She was newly pregnant and per my brother in law, he thought she died in his arms one morning. A trip to the ER and docs decided it was a seizure, put her on phenobarbital for a year, and b/c she didn't have another episode she came off meds. She has always complained of racing heart rate self identified as "panic attacks", but has been quite active and fit for her entire life. About ten years after that first epis...

Heart Beat

Hi Moms,

My son is 21mths and has a pacemaker with a natural heart beat of 33-44 Bpm.He is paced 100% of the time.

The normal heart pulse rate for a child depends on the child's age. For an infant child who is less than one year old the normal heart rate is 100 and 160 beats per minute. For kids aged between one year and ten years the normal heart rate is between 70 and 120 beats per minute. Teenagers usually have a normal heart rate of between 60 to 100 beats per minute

It's not as bad as the brochures makes you think

Working at a nuclear power plant, I go through a security check that makes airport security look like a handy wipe pat down. I have passed through metal detectors and explosive detectors and wand searches and not felt a thing. I have also been around the big generators at the power plant and electrical equipment rooms and not had a problem. If you have a modern device, do not be afraid of the airport metal detector. Just go through like a normal person. I did just that on a trip out West last su...

PM movement

Hi all,
I am 9 weeks post PM implant and doing ok, although it has been confirmed now that I did sustain a rotator cuff tear during surgery. I have visited this site a number of times and it certainly has saved me from a few trips to the ER. My question is does anybody experience movement of their PM, some days it is flat others it pokes out on one side. Also it is set very high and when I move my left arm in certain directions it seems to bang against my shoulder and clavicle, this often...

Forgot I was old too...

Finished the 1/2 marathon with no pacer or rhythm problems! And I was still vertical thanks to two angel runners who got me across the finish line. Tore a ligament halfway through but peg legged it most of the way, toward the end two strong runners held me up thru the finish line where medics grabbed me and carried me to the med tent, then the hospital. Now sporting a lovely knee immobilizer and crutches. No running for awhile:(.

information

Hi everybody, I went for my first check up with the cardiologist who fitted my pacemaker in October 2013, I had a page of questions to ask him about, I have a Biotronik Evia DR-T pacemaker , first one was battery life , he said that my batteries will last eleven years, it is MRI compatible, I can safely use electric drills, grinders ,arc welders and all electrical tools both cordless and corded types as long as they don't have any leaks and that I wear rubber gloves. I can use chainsaws, brush...

Do lots of people die in the PM Club ?

For some time I have been surprised by the number of people who send posts on here and :-

- ask questions
- ask for advice
- ask about other peoples' experiences
- ask for help re drugs, operations, recovery times, exercise etc

They then receive several answers from some helpful, well-meaning people, often lengthy replies involving effort and prior research.

And then we hear NOTHING ! No response; No Thank You "; No " I followed your advice and t...

Forgot I had a pm!

Sort of funny but at airport security they sent me to a TSA pre check line. Walked through the machine, it beeped, female agent came with a scanner. I remembered then about the pm and told the agent. Apparently it was one of the old machines, not the digital scanner I usually go through. She was upset and kept saying why didn't you tell us you had a pacemaker?! Well I forgot. Yep, I forgot I had a chunk of metal in my chunk and wires screwed in my heart. Far cry from the first few trips post im...
