Forgot I had a pm!

Sort of funny but at airport security they sent me to a TSA pre check line. Walked through the machine, it beeped, female agent came with a scanner. I remembered then about the pm and told the agent. Apparently it was one of the old machines, not the digital scanner I usually go through. She was upset and kept saying why didn't you tell us you had a pacemaker?! Well I forgot. Yep, I forgot I had a chunk of metal in my chunk and wires screwed in my heart. Far cry from the first few trips post implant where I anxiously waved my new pm card at them, but I think it's a good thing to be able to just forget about it. Think I'm getting used to this device.

Airports...

Back when your parents or anybody can go to the gate with you.....my parents forgot that I had one until I said that I had one at the scanner point. It is always at the back of my mind....even after all these years (almost 30 years)

About a month ago, we went to a law enforcement graduation in the City and we left pretty early. All was going well, we went into the building, I walked up the stairs and then it happened. I was eye to eye with a big burly Cop holding a big metal detector wand. I froze in mid-step when I realized I forgot to bring my medical ID card.

He looked at me and waved me closer with his wand and asked what's wrong. I put my hand over my heart and told him I have an ICD and forgot my card and he laughed and told me it's ok and to come through. I walked through and stood behind him.....now starring at the back of his head expecting a pat down. I said "that's it"? (I didn't want to walk away and then have him call me back and causing a scene with all these Cops). He said any other day it wouldn't be but today it is, enjoy your day. I was relieved and my family didn't even notice anything until I told them. (Don't know if that's a good thing)....LOL.

While it was funny, on the other hand the lapse in security was a little alarming.....even though the place was crawling with Cops.

That's a great milestone, so glad you reached it! It's so hard to believe at first that we truly do forget they are there.

Reminds me of the last time

I flew. Told someone I had a PM & as they were very busy I was directed thru what I thought was the new scanner. Well, the new knees (11 yrs old) & the PM forgotten but the metal detector spotted the metal knees & beeped . After going thru twice & being asked by 2 TSA gals if I had any any metal in me (hah) I was given the old pat down.

Congrats on joining the Forgetting club

Best news

Best news I've heard so far. Was in ER yesterday and pushed ID, medical card, and PM card across to the admitting person. So I'm not past the new PM person yet. Emergency was for non-heart issue.

Did walk across the parking lot last week and was surprised I didn't feel the PM pocket. So I'm getting there.

Glad to hear you made that much progress. It gives hope for me. (And hopefully for the rest of us.)
