information

Hi everybody, I went for my first check up with the cardiologist who fitted my pacemaker in October 2013, I had a page of questions to ask him about, I have a Biotronik Evia DR-T pacemaker , first one was battery life , he said that my batteries will last eleven years, it is MRI compatible, I can safely use electric drills, grinders ,arc welders and all electrical tools both cordless and corded types as long as they don't have any leaks and that I wear rubber gloves. I can use chainsaws, brush cutters and 2 stroke engine tools, I told him that I was planning a trip to Canada next year and asked him about the different time zones, my pacemaker is set for 70 bpm for day time and 60 bpm between 10pm and 6am , so he said to drop in to see him just before I was ready to go and he would adjust the pacemaker for 70 bpm (24hr) will I am away and when I come back he will reset it. It was good to get this sort of information straight from the horses mouth, it seems that the late model pacemakers are a lot more friendly to every day life. Rick

PM Settings

I have had my PM for 9 years. It is set for a minimum of 55 bpm, all day around. The high is set to 120 bpm or so. I haven't changed this for years and it has worked very well for me.
So, my pm is older (a Medtronics) and I need to be careful around magnetic fields. The battery will run out of juice within a year or so, I will ask about these new models like the one you have.

I think I was lucky to get all the information out of him, I was his last appointment for the day and I had been waiting 90 minutes past my appointment time so he was very helpful.. Rick
