I have had my pm for only one week. Went to work....passed out a couple of times.....ended up with a pacemaker all in several hours time. My diagnosis is third degree heart block. I had NO CLUE I had a problem. I have never been sick in my 60 years with anything much. My question is this: My husband and i are planning to go to Haiti on a mission trip in two weeks. If any of you have been there, you know what I mean by bumpy roads.......will that be a problem for my pm??

A little knowledge has left me totally confused. Please help. I have a pacemaker that is two months old. I think one thing it is supposed to do is speed up my heart when I am sleeping so I don't have 30HR with pauses. That must mean it speeds it up if I go below the programmed 50 sleep mode.Right? I have RR programmed at 110 but my HR even when climbing stairs or carrying groceries is in the high 60s. And when I watch tv or read at night, my HR is in the 60s.When I make the beds and cook a meal...

Hello!! It has been quite some time since I have been on here! Everyone has always been a great help and I need help now or understanding of why.
Recently....eveytime I touch the back of the computer or try to plug a device into the USB port I get a 'shock per se' or an intense tingling feeling and it effects what my PM is doing. Not sure if it is turning it on or just causing it to go crazy. It stops as soon as I release what I am touching. At first I thought I was crazy, but kn...

To Alma Anna, Hopeful Heart
Thank you for your input and encouragement.
I do trust the Docs I have - I just don't know if I want to take the risk of the Sotalol meds or if that doesn't work, then it would be an ablation. I just want to understand and know the risks, etc. and was wondering if any subscriber to this blog had taken sotalol. Tachycardia is hard to live with, and I feel like I need to make a decision, but I have already decided I need more info and have t...

Hello my name is Pat, as I am new to having a pacemaker and this club, thank you all for sharing, Wow we really are a club. I had my pacemaker surgery on 11-29-12, I had been on heart medication for the last year because of afib, had severe reaction to cardizem, allergic to all antihistimine, all neosporins and wine, and over the year on different heart medication to the point of almost not being able to work and do my job, but with Strength from God and a strong will I am doing well. I had the...

Just a quick hello as I am new here so thought I would tell you a little bit about me. I Have a pacemaker and my first pacemaker which was an external one was hooked up on December 6, 1967. It was done under a local so I could hear and see everything that was going on. I was also having a cut down with an IV tubing inserted on the opposite arm as the pacer lead was inserted on the right side. This was done to increase my heartrate from 20 to 60 so I would have a better chance of surviving o...

Hi in sorry to asking so many questions. I understand that i have to wait 6-8 weeks before i can start getting back to normal,(had my pm 1 week)
Im 43 with horses, and would like to know of Il be ok to push a heavy wheel barrow full of manure, once the taking it easy period is over. Or do you always have to be carefull.

It's a mad house down here in Louiaiana with the superbowl and the start of Mardi Gras.
Great weather to get out, so the family and I will be heading to New Orleans for the weekend.
I been down and out the last couple weeks, fighting a head cold, but feeling a bit better. I did have one bout with extra fluid, but got that under control after 3 days of extra meds. Of course they wanted to put me back in the hospital, but I had enough of that. I also am having a problem wit...

I have posted several times and each time I had some helpful advice and comments from other members. Thank you. I now have a question to direct and hope I receive some good answers again. For the last 19 months since my heart attark and ICD implant my BP has been 117/81 and heart rate at 58-60. My doctor has taken me off of Metoprolol and put me on Lisinopril (Zestril), and Carvedilol (Coreg). Now my BP is running around 148/74 and heart rate is 72-78. I am having panic attacks over this. Any s...

My wife and I are planning a trip to Peru and Bolivia.
This will entail travel in some high altitude areas, in the Andes.
The highest area is 12,000 feet above Seal Level.
I was wondering if anyone had any information, and/or
expereince with the effect of being in high altitudes and
their Pace Maker?
Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

Hi, I don't know which forum to post this in, please bear with me.
I had my P/M fitted in November 2011. For the last 3 months I have had periodic waking from sleep feeling like my blood is fizzing around my veins. I have a tremendous urge to bear down (like being in labour), and I feel nauseous and dizzy - my P/M has been interrogated and adjusted to allow me to do more without pacing, but no other problems were found. My P/M site has always been sore (but not red, hot or swollen)...

Hi i have had my pacemaker a week today, i just wandered how long you waited before you could drive. My doc said wait a week but i gave it a little test drive tonight and i managed but could feel the pull on my shoulder when changing gears. I hate having to rely on people, so how long before you felt comfortable.
thanks

"Pete" (my Pm's name) phoned in his first report to the Device clinic at my cardiologists. After a week or so I received a 7 page printout with more info than I could ever use, on what my heart had been doing for the last three months. Some of it I could understand, like how many times my heart had beat
(at different speeds) over that period and how many Afibs I had, and how long they lasted.
Do you all get these interesting reports and what info do you use the most.??

Anyway if there are "Ask Frank" questions that I miss answering I not deliberately shunning you.

Thank you all for your comments. I am a very compassionate person, but maybe it is self-pity is what I am experiencing. I have had thirteen treatments (Shocks) and believe me I hate every single one. But I guess it is because I would not like to be a burden to anyone and if I receive a treatment and I am with someone at the time I know they would just freakout. That is why I tell them up front about my physical health. I cannot live alone because a treatment may come at any moment. I live with m...
