Need to talk

Does anyone live in the Davie/Fort Lauderdale area of Florida that has a PM or ICD. I really need to talk to someone to know what they are going threw. Also does anyone know of a SUPPORT group in this same area? Thanks for all those who reply.

Thanks for your reply. My past 2 years has been, how should I say, yes- a journey. You are correct with great support from this website. I have been to different cardio doctors and electrophysiology doctors. I have pretty much been winging it for about a year. All the doctors are great with giving out booklets about an ICD. Mine shocked me 11 times in a row a one point. Here is what I have heard from all of them- ( nuts, no nuts)(low sodium, no sodium), (fish oil, no fish oil), lite mayo, no mayo, regular mayo). On and on it goes. How can we talk via phone or meet so I can talk your ear off with my problems? Thanks.

WPB

I'm an hour north in WPB area. I don't know of any local groups but you might check with Cleveland Clinic. I have a pm, not icd. My heart problems are congenital, so I've been around this block a few times now.

Ask ten drs, get ten different sets of advice.... I tend to go with the one I like best as long as it makes sense. Sometimes they don't make sense and I tune them out- I may not have been to med school but I have a brain and common sense and I think it's ok to make my own informed decisions rather than follow blindly. Moderation and common sense is the key to most everything.

Nuts have good oils that our bodies need, but too many is bad and they are high calorie. I eat one serving a day.

I'd skip the mayo, but that's just me. The full fat stuff is MEGA high in the bad fats, the lowfat stuff has more chemicals and sugar.

Yes to fish oil, I've never had a dr say no to that one but get a good one.

Sodium, if you have fluid retention problems or high bp, then limit it severely, otherwise moderation. The average processed/packaged food is loaded with sodium so you may think it's moderation but it's actually pretty high.

Be a label reader if you aren't already, the food industry is full of marketing geniuses who love to mislead us. Check out some of the food tracking websites to get a feel for how your daily fat/sodium/cholesterol is. I've always been a bit fanatic about my diet, I figure with the electrical problems I was born with it would be crazy to end up with plumbing problems that could have been prevented.

If you feel like hiking up here for another opinion, I adore both my cardio and ep. They are both next to Gardens Hospital.

If you want to chat, send me a private message and I'll give you my email and/or phone number.

Delray Beach

Hello,

I live not far from Ft Lauderdale in Delray Beach. In fact, just 3 days before I got my pacemaker in January of this yearI attended a Stanley Jordan concert at the Miniachi Center at Nova U in Davie, so I probably wasn't far from you then.

I'm sort new to the whole pm thing and it seems as if we have different heart issues and machinery (LOL). I have bradycardia which triggered lots of syncope episodes, the most recent being at work (NOT fun), but it sounds like you have something quite different. I do take Lovaza and that doesn't seem to be a problem. Best of luck to you.
