feeling a little funny

Hi, thanks for allowing me to join the pm club.I received my pm on Feb. 18th,2009 for 2:1 block bradycardia.I was just wondering how long will it take to get use to the device, still a little funny feeling like bloating and gassy once that passes i feel better could it be more of nerves or what. I check pulses from time to time and they are still up to where they were set at. will go to see Dr. on Fri.27th.

for all of us... some things to remember:

Life is too short to wake up with regrets.
So love the people who treat you right.
Love the ones who don't just because you can.
Believe everything happens for a reason.
If you get a second chance,(and we all have) grab it with both hands.
If it changes your life, let it.
Kiss slowly.
Forgive quickly.
God never said life would be easy.
He just promised it would be worth it.

A few questions

Hi everyone. I'm 21 and I'm having my PM put in on 28 Feb. I've read a lot about the procedure and what to expect etc. but to be honest, I'd prefer to find out from a patient's point of view, rather than the medics.

So I have a few questions:
What should I expect during the actual procedure? I've had 12 operations before, but they've all been under a general anaesthetic.
What is sedation like? Are you actually unconscious? Some people say you feel drunk and talk rubbish,...

Sore from Bra Strap rubbing

Hello ladies,
I am 8 weeks post pacemaker. One of my problems is that the surgery scar and surrounding area is so sore to the touch. It looks fine, no infection but so sore. I wanted to pass on something that has helped me.
Cut a strip of soft polar fleece fabric and wrap it around your bra strap. It helps with rubbing and pads it a bit. I found that the wooly thing I bought for my car seat belt was to thick and actually hurt more as it pushed into the scar. This fleece lays fla...

Premature Ventricular Contractions!

Hello everyone,
I've suffered for many many years with having pvc's. I was wondering how many people in this club actually suffer from premature ventricular contractions? How often do you get them? Are pvc's keeping you from falling asleep at night? I'm doing a study on how much premature ventricular contractions affect our everyday life styles. I would appreciate any input to help me with this study. I thank you all in advance because I know you've all been so helpful to me in the past....

When does the soreness go?

Hello everyone,
I received my pacemaker Dec. 18th. 2008. It is still really sore, the skin is hyper sensitive around the site plus the incision is very sore. I wrapped my bra strap with a piece of fleece fabric so it wouldn't rub so much which helped a little bit. It just seems that by now it should be feeling back to normal. Moving my arm and shoulder around pulls the skin and it really hurts too. I am not a baby when it comes to pain, I have had 7 other surgeries so know it takes time...

An old posting that might help the Newbies of this club.

I got my PM in 2001 and the first year took some getting use to it. I got out of the hospital and recovered really well. I was back to work in a month and things seem to have been normal and going great. Until I was running and something really strange happened. I was running in a soccer field and going into the third lap I felt my heart pumping stronger then I'm use to. I felt as though my heart was going to come out of my chest and run ahead of me. I dropped to my knees and raised my left arm...

Hard time with feeling my PM

Hello everyone. I haven't been on for a while but here goes. I've had my St. Judes PM for about 7 months now and for the most part things have been ok. I had what I would call severe pvc's prior to getting my PM (had 3rd degree heart block). After my surgery the pvc's actually calmed down. For whatever reason in the past few weeks the pvc's have returned with a vengence and I am also really aware of my PM. It is almost like it has moved or something. Something just does not feel right. My heart...

significant others ??

I was wondering how everyone's partners deal with your pacemaker, defibrillator, or your sickness.

In sickness and in health right?
It's an adjustment for all of us.
I feel badly for mine- for having to put up with me.

With Valentine's Day around the corner, I was wondering what ya'll's thoughts were.

advise or support anyone?

I was just wondering if anyone would comment on dealing with teens through this. I have 2 teens 16 and 13 who do not seem to get it that mom simply cannot run around like I am 20 years old anymore.I was out at a store with my daughter and she was upset with me because I wouldnt walk faster! I told her I simply cannot as I was out of breath by this point and reminded her of my cardiac condition. She rolled her eyes!
Its not that I require sympathy just a bit of consideration for me!

Angry

I am a 20 year old about to receive a defibrillator two weeks before my 21st birthday. I am in college and will be receiving it on my spring break. I am well rehearsed in the benefits it will provide and how unavoidable this is, but I can't help but be angry at the situation I find myself in. My brother has one and he is 23. I was hoping I would be able to at least make it to that age. I don't know how to cope with this. I don't want sympathy. I am just angry.

Hi Katielou

I feel so much better since my implant. I was having awful palpitations and apparently my heart was stopping for periods of 8, 9 and 10 seconds with just the odd heartbeat in between for quite a period of time, especially early morning, but since I've had it done I feel a lot less tired. I am glad that these thumps are felt by others so thanks for that!. I go for my first checkup in about 2 to 3 weeks so I will certainly mention it then. Can they tell if your heart has been beating properly or n...

re:reassurance (again)!

Hi to Wingart and Cabgpatch! Nice to hear from you. Feeling much less anxious (probably helped by coupla glasses wine last night). It's very reassuring to know that there are so many people out there who understand how you are feelig.
One question; when any of you feel the thudding in your chest, is it a grdular beat or a bit irregular or "flippy-floppy" feeling?
Also do any of you brits know where to get a pacemaker wristband or locket from that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I know t...

Ok...you all have been so helpful as I only know my friends mom has a pm and she's 75. I'm 42!
It's been 9 days since implating the pm and I notice when I get up and walk or sit up in bed and walk I feel the pm heaviness sometimes the leads and "feel" it more than I thought.
Will this go away in time?

I see my cardio on monday am. I do feel stronger today with finally sleeping through the night.

re;reassurance

Thanks for the reply TraceyE. Isee the cardiologist in about 3 weeks so will mention everything to him then. I get the impression that most of the other people in the club are from U.S.A! I live in the north west of England and I feel really good belonging to this club where if I have any worries I can talk to people who understand. Have agood day everyone!

reassurance

Had pacemaker inplanted 9 days ago for sss/wenckebach (not overly sure which yet)! Still getting used to it, it was all a bit of a rush to get me in and the procedure done after an abnormal result from a 24 hour e.c.g monitoring. I am having strong thudding feelings, especially at night, and it was making me really nervous, but since reading comments from others that they feel the same sensations I feel so much better! I have mine set at 50 so I think that's the reason

New here

I like what I see so far here. Seems like you guys know what you are taking about. My cardiologist mentioned this site to me and I thought I'd check it out.
I do have one question. I'm thinking about changing doctors because I think I would feel more comfortable with a male doctor. Which is what prompts me to ask this question here. I just couldn't bring myself to ask her. I felt myself getting red just thinking about it and I could not ask. I left the office still with questions.I'm 55, do...
