Hi Katielou

I feel so much better since my implant. I was having awful palpitations and apparently my heart was stopping for periods of 8, 9 and 10 seconds with just the odd heartbeat in between for quite a period of time, especially early morning, but since I've had it done I feel a lot less tired. I am glad that these thumps are felt by others so thanks for that!. I go for my first checkup in about 2 to 3 weeks so I will certainly mention it then. Can they tell if your heart has been beating properly or not when you go, or do they rely on you to tell them what you have been feeling?
I will certainly go on the medicalert website after tea n check it out. I live in Lancashire where we have escaped the worst of the bad weather(for a change) but I believe it's been bad where you are..
Best wishes Janet

There is an "Event Recorder"

in most Pacemakers that record any odd happening, that being said, it might not show the "thumps" as such. When you go in for your interogation, ask if it shows anything also ask if it's recorded any PAC's or PVC's, or anything else you should know about (that usually works with the tech where I get mine done).

Also be sure to ask for a printout of your settings, most of it will seem as understandable as Chinese at first but there are some people on here who can give you the low down on just what the settings mean, AND it's a handy thing to have in your file.

Good advice

Thankyou Donna for that. I will ask for a printout cos I would like to learn more about how my heart is working and what is normal and what is not. I can't fault the way I was treated as soon as the condition was picked up, my care was 1st class from the cardiologist down, but I haven't had too much explained to me yet. I'm sure that will change when I go for my 1st checkup!
Best wishes Janet

hope so

Hi there, was an emergency case so didnt have any info prior to surgery. Care was superb, but info minimal, came home in a blur really and this wasnt really helped at my first interrogation.

Thank God I found this site, or I would still be non the wiser to many things.

I asked for a print out but was told I couldnt have one, next time, after talking to people on here, I will demand one. Was just told, pm working ok, see you in 6 months.

My eight year old son had a pacemaker since he was 6 months old. He does very well, plays soccer, baseball, and rides his bike. I am so glad he is not ashamed of his pacemaker. He will proudly show his "battery" to anyone.
