RE: Pacemaker that is placed on the heart

I recently had my pacemaker and leads removed due to a vegetative growth on one of the leads. It was a staph bacteria and I spent 2 weeks in intensive care and 6 weeks on IV antibiotics.

My cardiologist says I cannot get a 'traditional' pacemaker but will need one that is placed by opening part of the chest cavity and the pacemaker will be placed on the heart.

Does anyone have one of these or have you heard of this? It seems a little scar to me but my HR has been dropping...

Pityriasis Rubra Pilaris (PRP)

I have developed PRP in November 2012. It is a very rare skin disorder. My body has rejected the pacemaker 3 times over 18 month periods. My 3rd pacemaker was inserted in August 2009. it was placed behind the Pectoril muscle, 18 month later my body rejected it by piercing it's way right through the skin, where it was visible. The 4th pm was inserted March 2011 deep into the chest area. My Cardiologist assured me that it would not be able to come through the body again. In November 2012. I develo...

palpitations after pacemaker implantation?

Hi,

In October 2010 I had a PM fitted. As soon as the PM was fitted, whilst I'm still on the table, palpitations start. I've never had these before! What follows is 14 months of hell with these palps. Had all the tests, but all seems ok to the doctors. On 4 january 2012 I had the PM & leads removed, BUT I'm still left with the palps. A year has gone by and still I've palps. I feel the cardio doctor may of damaged a nerve etc whilst fitting the PM in 2010. If it wasn't for the...

New member so maybe old question, but has anyone gone thru spells where your heart feels like it is beating so hard that its going to come out of your chest. Pulse and blood pressure fine and just passed thorough examination. Battery due to be changed within a few weeks? Just don't feel right and have had dry cough for 2 weeks. Any ideas?

Anyone experienced this?

I have been having a sensation I describe as a "kick"in my chest and it hurts! I also get dizzy and short of breath but just for a couple of seconds. I went to a cardiologist and he said I am a paced 94% of the time . He says my symptoms are not related to my heart or pacemaker. He referred me to a neurologist. Sound right? I'm on Bystolic and he says I don't need it. Any ideas?
Thanks!

Recurring infection?

Just found out that it's time for my PM battery to be changed again. This will be my 3rd device. I had a very serious infection after the last battery was implanted. The dermabond that had been used to seal my incision didn't hold. My incision started coming back open. It began on a Thursday night. After consulting with my reg doc, and she talked to the cardiologist, they decided that my check up on Monday was soon enough. Monday came, and I wound up back in the cardiac lab. They had to...

Recent Pacemaker Implantation

My mother had an emergency pacemaker implantation in December. Her heart rate fluctuated from 60 to at times 30-40 per minute. She said that she would be light headed, lose her balance, and felt like she was going to pass out although she never did. She ended up in the hospital one night because her blood pressure shot up and her primary physician put her on a beta blocker. Her heart rate ended up going down to 30-40 per minute. The cardiologist in the hospital allowed the beta blocker to be...

Thick headed

Hi everyone,
Well, my Mom always used to say I was "thick headed", which is southern speak USA for stubborn. Unfortunately, what I'm going through has nothing to do with stubbornness! Let me explain:
I got a PM on 7/30/12 and I'm still trying to feel good again, nearly 6 months later.
I was doing OK, working out at the gym, climbing the rock wall and road biking a bit. Slowly but surely improving.
On Saturday morning I was doing some yoga at home. I think I stretched my...

Unsure of Pacemaker related

Hi,
I'm new to this site, although have been looking at posts for some time before joining. I had a pacemaker put in about 3-4 months ago, and quickly had some complications (put in for bradycardia) with my HR doing the weird and wonderful and going very fast at rest, but especially when I tried to walk (very out of breath and sats would drop, dizzy etc). I have some other health issues too, but I'm posting because I wondered if anyone else has had issues with their left arm turning a fun...

Doglady's response

It was about midnight and I got up to go to the bathroom. After 4 steps I collapsed and knew instantly something was horribly wrong. My husband was going to pick me up and I kept saying call 911, when he turned on the light and saw I was gray and ashen, he called 911.

I was rushed to the hospital with heart rate of 25, blood pressure 60/40. I was literally dying. It was a horrible night. The ER staff had to keep giving me drugs to keep my heart beating and it was terribly uncomfo...

The Doglady

The hospital threw the pacemaker away. I did not find that out for months. I thought the FDA would have required it be returned to the manufacturer for testing to see what had happened. I was truly dumbfounded and so was my cardiologist.

I was a paralegal for many, many years and thought about a products liability suit but knew full well that "close calls don't count" so knew better than to try to pursue it.

I now have a St. Jude device but want to get rid of our land li...

Swelling, discomfort and dicoloration

I recently (4 weeks) had a St Jude pacemaker implanted and I continue to have swelling discomfort and discoloration on my left arm. Elevating my left arm has only provided very limited relief.
Has anyone experienced this concern?
