The hospital threw the pacemaker away. I did not find that out for months. I thought the FDA would have required it be returned to the manufacturer for testing to see what had happened. I was truly dumbfounded and so was my cardiologist.
I was a paralegal for many, many years and thought about a products liability suit but knew full well that "close calls don't count" so knew better than to try to pursue it.
I now have a St. Jude device but want to get rid of our land line and go to MagicJack but their Merlin device either needs a land line or they want to charge me $17.00 a month for an adaptor, I guess for the rest of my life. I think that is absurd and will find out at my next visit if that Merlin thing is really necessary.

My cardiologist is going to notify Merlin that I will not be using their device. I have no contract with Merlin to my knowledge so I do not see how they could charge me for anything except the cost to return the device to them. I will just have to see my doc twice a year instead of just annually.
The first comment was with respect to the Guidant I had. One year ago yesterday it just stopped working with about a year's worth of battery left per the testing 3 weeks before. If I had not waked up, I would have been dead for a year now.

Medtronic & Magic Jack

I was told that the magic jack only connects about one out of 5 tries. Depending on proximity to the Dr, you might be able to go in for the interrogations. I've been going in monthly now for about 6months since my medtronic was on the advisory list here in the US. There wasn't a charge for the interrogations, only if I had an appt with the Dr. Not sure if it'll help any...
