To tell or not to tell.

I'm a Industrial Electrician and have been working with my ST. Jude ICD for over two years.
Do I tell the new employer about the ICD or keep quiet? I fought for 3 months with current employer to get my job back. After two years and no problems I'm looking to move.
TY.

New blog posts: Nanostim & Afib ablations

I have written three blog posts on new research results that were presented at this year's European Society of Cardiology's congress (ended today). One covers the new data from the St. Jude Nanostim LEADLESS II trial, the other two deal with studies in the field of catheter ablation to treat atrial fibrillation. Odd

I have only just found this out but since having pm 4 years ago, sometimes when I use my hairdryer the front doorbell rings. No one ever there. I don't hear it but my husband does, and has only just thought to tell me. I wonder if there is any connection to PM or just an electrical phenomenon?!!

Increased heartrate in truck

Hi. This might sound a bit odd, but I wondered if anyone else has had the same symptoms.
I am just over 6 weeks PM fitted and have settled into a much easier routine. Going back to work (teaching) tomorrow as the new term starts.
But, had a couple of strange incidents this afternoon.
Sat in husbands truck, he was driving. Suddenly started to feel unwell and heart rate went sky high 164. Felt very uncomfortable until got out of truck Went on our walk with the dog and things settled...

On the up

Since my EST and PM adjustment I really feel as if at last I have turned a corner. Managed to paddle down a river last weekend, lots of bad words as I thought I was going to capsize but survived!!, good to be out again . Arm/shoulder, wound all great after the paddle.
Still getting short bouts of palps ? PM induced but they stop very quickly. The main thing that still feels wrong is my heart rate still seems too high when not doing very much (90) however when settled feel great. Maybe in t...

I'm Ecstatic! EF is Near Normal 17 mths

Just got the results from my echocardiogram report. My EF is now 40-45% 17 months post implant! A substantial gain since 20 months ago having a 15% EF and being diagnosed with non-ischemic, LV Dilated Cardiomyopathy. The LV has returned to normal size, the mitral valve now has only mild to moderate (was severe) regurgitation. A far improved heart report card than I did 20 months ago when diagnosed.

I'm pacing at 98.8%. Looks like the Medtronic Viva XT CRT-D, meds, exercise, and lower...

pm question

I am now 6 months post pm implant with a Medtronic dual lead for sss. I've been having odd problems such as getting shocked when entering numbers for 3 different electronic gate openers (I now get out of my car to punch in the numbers), a short-lasting tone that happened most recently a couple of mornings ago, and occasional vibration from the pm that feels like the cell phone vibration. Most recently I took a photo of a bank check to deposit and the screen on my iPhone was jumping, correlatin...

New to the Party

Hi all,

Next week I will be getting my first pacemaker placed. I'm not going to lie, I'm nervous as heck, but really am looking forward to the possibility of feeling better. I've been passing out for about 10 years now. I've tried multiple medications to try and stabilize my HR and now it's come to this. I'm only 28 years old so the idea of a pacer is rather frightening but I have confidence in my Dr that this is the right choice. Here's to pacing and feeling better!

Odd feeling?

Hello
On June 10 of this year at 54 had pacemaker put in, not what I had planned for my 54 th year.. No meds have had AF about two or three times a year lasting any where from a few hours to the longest 2 days for the past 15 years. And then in June had about 10 episodes on feeling not so good, went to hosp. and they caught last episode on ekg and Dr. stated you get to have a pacemaker. Any way reason for posting, I have had one appointment with Cardiologist and two with pacemaker clinic,...

Getting CRT implanted soon & so many questions

My regular cardiologist sent me to an EP who reviews all of the tests and he recommended that I have a CRT-D device implanted.

When I first was diagnosed with CHF, it was in an ER and while in the hospital the first ECHO showed an EF of 15. It has now been 2 years, and I am still very weak. My EF has only come up to 25. I'm on carvedilol, lisinopril, furosemide, spironolactone & Eliquis. I've been diagnosed with CHF, CAD, A-Fib. I have responded well to these meds & my bp is al...

The joys of having a pacemaker

As I have now survived a whole 6 weeks of life with my pacemaker, I thought I'd share some of the highs and lows! Here is a lighthearted look at just some of the issues I encountered :-)
Leaving Hospital.
24 hours post implant it was declared I was now fit and healthy and ready for home. Feeling far from it I telephoned home for someone to collect me. Husband at work, so the responsibility falls on my son. Spot his car at the top of the car park and struggle up the hill with overn...

? ? ?

I have a hypothetical question please. I do not ever see me doing this as a choice, but it has crossed my mind what if it became best for whatever reason. I know I have read a few thoughts about it on here before. If a device were to be removed and not replaced, would there not be issues with muscle, tissue, skin and possibly vascular changes in the abandoned space?

Lead extraction/replacement BEFORE battery dies???

So lucky me I have the awesome (joking) riata lead on my pacemaker/icd. The riata is really really separated and I'm hoping it doesn't cause a shock before I make it to the lead specialist on the 1st...I have to have leads removed because I'm completely full (7 leads total, 3 in use) BUT my pacemaker/icd isn't ready to be replaced as it still has 1.5 years. So my questions is this, Will they replace pacemaker now or just do the wires and go back in again in 1.5/2 years? If they don't replace pac...

Good, Good news!

I am so excited! The members of the PM club have discussed that fact that many people with cardiac rhythm problems and pacemakers also seem to suffer from sleep apnea. Ever since getting my PM in Nov., 2015 I have wondered if preventing my heart from beating so slowly at night might also have had an impact on my diagnosis of sleep apnea. My logic was that if my heart rate was previously falling in the range of 30 to 40 beats at night (and sometimes lower) that condition might possibly have c...
