Hacking pacemakers

There was a recent post concerning hacking of pacemakers. An article said it was possible to hack into a pacemaker. In this post I'll go further into detail about hacking of pacemakers and what it means to us with pacemakers.

Hacking - illegal or unauthorized access to a device or service.

Black Hat researcher Jerome Radcliffe hacked his own insulin pump. Radcliffe reverse-engineered the wireless commands sent from the small controller that ships with his pump. He was t...

Pacemaker placed, after seven years of deliberatio

Hi all! I'm new here and just got a pacemaker implanted three days ago, seven years after my first diagnosis of intermittent third degree av-block. I guess what I'm doing here is just telling you my story because I feel a need to get it off my chest, and share it with people with similar experiences. I've actually never talked with anyone with similar experiences.
I've been living in three different countries since my first diagnosis, and I think about ten different cardiologist have been t...

Making the decision

I am a 54 yr old female. I started having difficulty while teaching my spin class. My heart rate would be in the 140 range and suddenly drop to 50. I would feel faint and weak.

I thought it was low blood sugar. I ate before the next class and if happened again only sooner. This time when I hit 125 on HRM. Stress test results were the same. Transient heart block was the diagnosis. Since then a heart scan, sonogram , holter monitor several ekgs and an MRI of my heart ...I have been t...

HR, just looking for opinion

2 days ago went for check up adjustment. As I posted than couple changes were made just not what I thought and that brings me to looking for opinions. For some reason my Pacemaker is set for 40. Is this to low? I am sitting doing nothing hr is 40 -45, prior to pm heart rate would probably not be much lower. The average would run about 42 prior to pm varring low 30's to mid 40's. My cardiologist is a wonderful but just thinking PM's not really her specialty. I am feeling a little tired and cold...

new to group

Hi! I'm new to the group and I'm really psyched that I found you all. I had a PM On Oct 9th of this year and it's slow getting back in to the exercising "thing" again. One day I walk 2 miles then another day it's 1 mile, which makes me feel wiped out. It's a little frustrating because I was a 6 day a week workout person but I'm pushing myself while listening to my body too (if that makes sense). Today my incision site hurts like wires are poking me. The nurse told me I had two layers of stit...

Arm Movement

Ok has anyone found that they still hold their arm next to their body sometimes even though they do not have to anymore? I find myself cradling my arm next to my body and resting it under my breast like at the beginning. It is too funny, I just start laughing at myself. It is like my arm wants to be there now.

Just thought I would share my funny moment with everyone.

Checkup

OK, lets pick someones brains.Had my rate response turned on 6 months ago on my Sorin Reply DR and I was being paced then at 96% on my Atrial. Today on my latest check up I am only being paced at 40% on my Atrial with settings of 60/130. That seems like a drastic difference, does turning on the rate response normally have that effect. It has slightly increased the incidence of Angina attacks which they said it might, but generally I feel better and with more energy (not too much more, but some)...

CONDUCTION STOVES

Hey Guys! Hope everyone is a having a super day...I have a quick question that I'm sure the pros have the answer to. What happens if you accidentally forget and get close to the oven part of a conduction stove? My pacemaker is set to demand at 50, would there be any interference?

Signs battery is getting low

Any one else notice slight dizziness up to a few years before needing PM replaced? When I was at the grocery store today I noticed feeling a little dizzy after I looked up, then back down. I have about 3 more years of battery life left. But I've noticed this with prior pacemakers, too & wondered if others have noticed this as well.

Thanks
V

Insurance questions

Age 75, covered by Medicare A & B and pharmacy part D. Looking for info on obtaining supplementary insurance to Parts A & B , rather that an "Advantage" type plan which replaces A & B. (Not looking for an agent, but for general member experience.)

All agents have been super friendly at first, and then get nasty when I want exact answers as to whether or not I am actually insurable at all, other than Medicare, with a pacemaker. Most answer "No" with a supplementary policy, but poss...

MRI with pm

It is over, was a piece of cake. I had it done at St Vincent's Heart Hospital in Indianapolis. The radiologist, nurses, St. Jude's tech, and everyone else there was just wonderful. I had continuous EKG, blood pressure, and oxygen monitoring, everything was fine. In fact I dozed through most of it.

Holiday Insurance

Hi everyone, Does anyone know of an insurance company that will cover my pacemaker for holiday insurance? My yearly holiday insurance expired 2013 but as my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer early 2013 so we didn't renew. When I enquired I could get a good yearly insurance but excluded the pacemaker. I have never had any blackouts etc, just breathlessness and don't take any medication for my heart condition. I can't understand it. I need to be insured from the UK. Can anyone help....

Hello! I would like to introduce myself. My name is Jennifer, I am 34 years old, and getting a PM this Wednesday. My bradycardia problems started back in June when I had a gastric bypass. The night of my surgery my HR kept dropping down into the 20s. Everyone blew it off and blamed it on the morphine pump I was on. I told the surgeon about it and he kinda laughed it off and told me I had a runner's heart, keep in mind I weighed 325 pounds. Runner's heart, yeah right. Fast forward, a few months l...
