Hi everyone, Does anyone know of an insurance company that will cover my pacemaker for holiday insurance? My yearly holiday insurance expired 2013 but as my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer early 2013 so we didn't renew. When I enquired I could get a good yearly insurance but excluded the pacemaker. I have never had any blackouts etc, just breathlessness and don't take any medication for my heart condition. I can't understand it. I need to be insured from the UK. Can anyone help. My previous holiday insurance was very cheap considering it was for a year.
Thanks
Chris

I am in the UK and get annual travel insurance without any problems . It is crazy that having a PM should be excluded as you were probably more of an insurance risk pre-PM than afterwards !
As Sparrow says, do a search on this site because the question has been asked quite frequently.
Or you could try one of the comparison sites such as Go compare or travel supermarket.com and you will find loads of companies to suit your needs. Also Which magazine is a good source of information.
I use the Nationwide because I bank with them and they give me free annual travel insurance without any extra charge for having a PM.
You may find that some companies load the premium by around 30 pounds if you have a PM; most companies increase the premium if you have had ANY surgery in the previous 12 months. Any excuse to extract more money from you and they will find it !
Best of luck
Ian

Thankyou Angry Sparrow & Ian MC for your comments. It is ridiculous that one year my pacemaker is covered and not even loaded then can only have insurance but pacemaker excluded. As you say, there are thousands of people with PM's and travel abroad. I had my PM fitted in 2010 and I have had no problems with it or with any symptoms. I will try my bank and see what they say. I think my annual policy was only just over £100 for Aug 2012-Aug 2013. Now they don't want to know. I will let you know how I get on. Thanks again for you help, both of you
