Hi! I'm new to the group and I'm really psyched that I found you all. I had a PM On Oct 9th of this year and it's slow getting back in to the exercising "thing" again. One day I walk 2 miles then another day it's 1 mile, which makes me feel wiped out. It's a little frustrating because I was a 6 day a week workout person but I'm pushing myself while listening to my body too (if that makes sense). Today my incision site hurts like wires are poking me. The nurse told me I had two layers of stitches so I'm assuming it's the healing process. I called and left a message with the nurse. Does anyone feel that poking pain?

I had a lot of pain during the healing process which I am still going through. The one thing I noticed while walking...if I swung my arms just the slightest bit...that caused me discomfort. Its a whole new ballgame.
I feel great and yes, there are going to days when you hurt and days where you feel good...its a slow healing process but well worth it.

I have the poking feeling too sometimes. With me, it isn't actual pain, but it is definitely a poking feeling. I'd describe it more like an irritant. It was worse at the beginning, but I still have it at times, even 2 years later.
Mine is from the way the PM is sitting underneath my skin and being petite and light weight according to the doctors. The poking is coming from the area where the leads attach to the PM (that plastic section that is attached to the metal part of the PM). Although it's not sharp in there, my skin and insides must just be sensitive to that part, because the metal part doesn't cause that at all.
It is way worse when my PM shifts if I try doing hand weights or fly type exercises, so I quit doing those completely. Push ups and handstands are no longer part of my daily routine either. For some reason, that type of movement makes it worse, including shifting the PM some. Do you do anything like that?
Have you noticed the poking pain worsening if you're in certain positions or doing certain things? Or, is it all of the time? If it's all of the time, hopefully, it's still just part of the healing process.
Can you pinpoint where this sensation is coming from exactly? Is it where the leads meet the PM like on mine, or that whole area? Or, is it actually coming from your incision instead? If it's your incision, that should go away like others have said, so we'll hope for that!
You know you're wired when...
Airport security welcomes you.

Didn't have

Didn't have the poking pain but did have the stretching pain. If your incision hurts it's probably because you pushed it a little too hard.
I wasn't able to push it until seven months out. Then went through a period where it felt like the PM had cut the inside of the pocket. Of course that didn't happen - probably just stretching - but it felt like it was cutting. After another five months that pain went away and I can do as much activity as I want.
It's normal to be up one day and then down another. Your body is adjusting to the new normal and you'll have ups and downs. Just think of it as a "down" day, rest, then go back to your routine. Gradually over time you'll have fewer and fewer down days.
When I got my last PM report I could see on the graph where the natural heart rhythm had gone away and my body had switched over to using the PM. That corresponded to the up and down period where I was adjusting.
Keep moving. Keep doing stuff. You'll feel better.
Glad things are going very well for you.
