Depends upon your meds

Depends upon your meds. I got approval from both my EP and cardiologist before I took a sip.

EP said limit to 8 ounces of beer. Went over to the UK. A pint is 8 ounces, right?

US pints are Winchester pints

According the "Consider the Fork", a history of home cooking, the US decided to stick with ancient English measures, known as the Winchester pint, which matched the ounces in a pound, whereas the UK in fact altered our measurements to a larger pints . . .
At the same time, the French invented the metric system, but the UK wasn't going to adopt that, while fighting them, so we only saw sense in the 20th century. Except for our exceptions, like pints.
When my sister visits me in the US, she laughingly requests "a small pint".

16 oz is a pint or a pound the world around

One is fluid ounces, the other weight, but that's the ditty I learned. However, I'm pretty sure anyone in a UK pub would tell you that one beer is what's in your glass.

Sorry Griddlebone

You are half right. A pound is 16 ounces, a pint is 20 fluid ounces . A beer is a beer !!

Some bartenders don't always fill the glass though !

BUT I am talking about British Imperial pints as I am British !

For some strange reason Americans decided to change pints to only 16 ounces. It is the only thing I can think of which is smaller in USA than Britain : cars, houses, food portions, waists, thighs, cost of pacemakers / drugs etc are all much bigger in the US so why, oh why, did you want to have smaller pints . Pints were 20 ounces long before America was even discovered.

I think I would rather order a beer here and get a decent glassful instead of a miniature

Cheers !!!

pms and alcohol

Nothing about having a pm is affected by alcohol. Many cardiac medications interact with alcohol, and it's a bad idea to drink with some underlying conditions. When in doubt, ask your dr.

Why pints are smaller in America

by brushmore - 2014-11-22 12:11:15

Ian,

Have you ever had an America beer? If you did then maybe you might understand why our pints are smaller! :-)

I just love PM Club...

...........SO...Global 'Weights and Measures'....OK Guys..try this...

As Sara points out the French..( well just maybe The Romans )..invented / devised the Metric System.

So...in the name of all that makes 'logical' sense, does the Entire World,..regardless of Class, Creed, Colour..or Whatever..still take their Cars / Autos,..for new Tyres / Pneus...and ask for some 17 x 225s...or 18 x 250s.....???

The 17/18 is rim diameter in Inches..and the 225/250 is in those weird old French/Roman Millimetres..for width...deep breath here....

In conflict zones around the World..Tires/Tyres/Pneus unify the Anglo Saxon the Roman.....

If only Multinationals like Goodyear and Michelin could realise their possible influence here.

AAhhh...we can dream..

However, your comment was hilarious and dead on correct for the major brands.

I'm glad someone (theknotguy and TraceyE) actually answered the original poster's question.
