I have Sinus Node Dysfunction and am scheduled for pacemaker surgery soon. I'd like advice on the make and model that is best for this condition and is most trustworthy not to fail. I have an active lifestyle-strenuous 4 mile walk every day with max pulse rate of 157 when I run up stairs and lots of gardrning with heavy lifting. Thanks.

Last week I had my PM adjusted from 60 to 70, I felt good for the rest of the day, after which when I ran or even when it felt like it it gave me small shocks just like when they test it on the pace maker check, I then got flu and for the last 4 days have been in bed and not felt my heart at all, today I got up to try and get back to normal, but I am getting the painful shocks.
Is this due to the flu or maybe 70 is to high for me??
So glad I have found this sight.

Does anyone else suffer from breathing issues? Like the constant need to lightly breathe and feel like you're holding your breath if you don't? I have no previous breathing issues, these started about 2.5 weeks after my pacemaker was put in?

There are so many new members since I joined 3 years ago, I only have a read now and again and don't recognise a lot of members, but its good to see the support that is being given.
My lovely husband John died peacefully at home on the 17th of November after a long battle with COPD. We were married not quite 50 years, I was only 17 when we married so at the moment I am missing him dreadfully. I have got family living close so that is a blessing, and I have wonderful friends, b...

Hi, very new here. Had a bi vent blah blah blah with defib installed recently. Very sleepy a lot of the time. I'm 46 and EF around 30⦠None of the doctors seemed too concerned immediately that I am so sleepy. Very hard to stay productive when I need several naps a day. I know many of you feel the same way I do and could you please be so kind as to tell me what it took for this drowsiness to subside. For example, was there an adjustment that was made for you, or perhaps a medicine that i...

After 10 years I am going for my second PM. I fainted once before my first PM was implanted. I have never had any issues afterwards, but I know that after these years I have become more dependent on my PM.
I know that this depends on one's condition, and that the rules will vary from one country (or state) to another, but I wonder if any of you has had any issues renewing the driver's license, and/or if they request a letter from a doctor.
Any comments?

Thanks

I had my St Jude single lead pacemaker put in 2 weeks ago tomorrow. From the beginning I have been able to feel when it goes off or it is manipulated. I could feel two taps. Now I only feel one. Actually woke me up this morning. The cardiologist wanted the minimum at 50 but think the pacemaker Dr put it at 60. I'll admit I've not been the best not lifting less than 5 lbs. My hubby is disabled with back injury and I have no help. Today I go for 2 week check and I'm hoping he does not say...

My CRT-D is 6 years old today. Time sure does fly. I think most of us get reflective when this date comes around each year, I know I do.
So many reasons to be thankful: family, friends, a good team of Doctors and of course, the PMC.
So Newbies, when you think it is never going to get better, it is very important to.....give it time, BUT educate yourself and help yourself too. Take an active role in your health care and take care of yourself.

Is anyone familiar with parylene coated pacemakers? I am supposed to have a pacemaker implanted later this month that is parylene coated. According to Wikipedia, "it is the most bio-accepted coating for stents, defibrillators, pacemakers and other devices permanently implanted into the body."
My autoimmune problems are suspected to be the result of a 17 year history of leaking silicone implants, which were removed due to systemic symptoms.

Hot Tub "current" ?

In signing up for an East Coast beach house for a summer family vacation, the hot tub/swimming pool info came with a warning that they might contain a small "natural" (?) electrical current that could cause a problem with pacemakers. Is this just another "microwave" type scare or something real? In looking up hot tubs on EMI lists, it is sometimes listed as "low risk". Could they possibly mean that older guys might get a too high heart rate from all those gorgeous gals bathing suits? lol

Hi, I have a young sister who has had her pacemaker since she was 15 years old. Now she is in her mid 30's. It is so hard for my mother and me to know how she is feeling or what hurts for she is Intellectual disability. My mother and I have to guess depending on her body language and facial gestures of what is going on with her. Recently we noticed that she is not able to sleep. She tries to lay down but as soon her head hits the pillow she get up and tries to sleep in a sitting position. It is...

Hi I'm new to this group, in fact new to all of this!
Found out yesterday that I need a pacemaker I'm 35 and scared to death! After fainting and feeling faint and having palpitations I've had all the tests and my 24 hour monitor picked up skipped beats twice in the evening. The cardiologist said if I was older it would be an immediate pacemaker. He's decided to put a 7day monitor on , if nothing picks up then have a loop recorder fitted. But because of what the monitor already picked up an...

I'm 34 year old male Firefighter/Paramedic. I am new to the career. I have dizzy spells about 3 times a year. I have had a whole workup done on me and have been diagnosed with "Neurocardiogenic Syncope." or "Vasovagal Syncope." I am told I need a pacemaker even though I can pass every stress test and the doctors can't find anything wrong with my heart. It is unexplained why I get dizzy or sometimes pass out but due to a positive Tilt Test with a little Nitro my heart stopped for approximately 40...

Hello All:
After a routine checkup at a new pediatrician, it was discovered that my four year old has a heart murmur. She's also small for her size and so she was referred to a pediatric cardiologist. The PC discovered an AV block. I do not know the degree yet-he did ultrasounds, ekg, and she wore a heart monitor for 24 hours.
We meet with him again in about week-we met with a genetecist to see if there were any underlying conditions that might conflict with the pacemaker-...

Insurers apparently require new policy applicants older than 74 to undergo physical exams. Does anyone have or know of experience where PM patients were rejected or subject to higher than normal premiums?
