Hi Pacemaker Club sorry i have not been on in a while its been super busy! Its almost time and I have to really thank my husband he has been very sweet through this roller coaster emotional thing that I have been going through. He has been educating himself about my conduction. Also he wants to get a pacemaker tattoo on his chest in the same spot as mine(talk about dedicated) lbvs. 2 weeks ago I was like I'm so ready! Last week I was a mess....I was like Noooo I'm not ready!
This week I'm so nervous....but I know its a blessing to be able to get a pacemaker and I know I can't be selfish. Also my little sister came up with a name for my pacemaker! Drum roll please!.....She wants to call it THUMPER! Lol (what do you guys think?) Also dose anyone know when they will tell me what time to come to the hospital for surgery??? They called for my insurance info but the lady said someone else was going to call... the surgery is almost here!

I resisted getting a pacemaker also and ended up having one implanted 31 days ago. I had a 30 day Holter Monitor during the month of June. By the time I got the written report of the monitoring and saw that I had all sorts of problems and a BPM that went down to 7 once and averaged 35 to 45 BPM at night, I was scared and worried that I would die in my sleep before I had the surgery. There was even an entry in the report where they made an urgent phone call to a nurse in the hospital used by my doctor and I never did find out what they did about that. When I told the two doctors examining me that 7 BPM sounds like death to me they averted their eyes and did not look at me. To make a long story short, I had not taken them up on an earlier offer to have me evaluated for a pacemaker, so by the time I was scared enough to take the step I had two wait two months before the very good, popular surgeon could fit me into his schedule. I had Afib and Bradycardia and at the age of 73 it is a pretty sure bet that those conditions were going to continue to get worse. I was counting the days for my surgery and really had serious doubts about living long enough for the implant. So, don't wait. I don't think it will help. I was so very ready by the time I went into surgery. It does take an attitude adjustment. Even at my age I was very physically active and part of my identity was a feeling of independence and self worth because of my fitness. Realizing that I had serious cardiac problems and needed a PM definitely make me feel more vulnerable and in touch with my mortality. But, it was not wise for me to put off this potentially life saving procedure. Once you take the plunge, you will adjust and realize how lucky you are to have these modern medical miracles to extend and improve your quality of life.
THANKS YOU GUYS!
