heart powered pacemaker

Good morning and Happy New Year to all. Did any of you catch the news blurb yesterday about the researchers in Michigan who are using piezoelectric materials to power pacemakers? It's basically a batteryless pacer that runs via natural actions of the heart. Rather than my trying to explain it, just Google "heart powered pacemaker" and you'll get several links. (I found it on Yahoo news)
Things are still very much in the development stage, but, I'm still fairly young and pace 100% so I'll be...

One smart Lady!

A blonde walks into a bank in New York City and asks for the Loan officer. She says she's going to Europe on business for two weeks andNeeds to borrow $5,000.

The bank officer says the bank will need some kind of security for the loan, so the blonde hands over the keys to a new Mercedes Benz SL 500.

The car is parked on the street in front of the bank, she has the title and everything checks out. The bank agrees to accept the car collateral for the loan.

The bank...

Recover from pacemaker implantation

Hi,everyone! I'm 27 years old and this is my first time to join a club like this. I've got my pacemaker implantation only 3 months back and I've got a lot of things to cope up with not to mention the occasional sharp pain I have on my pacemaker site. But what bothers me the most is the way my body respond when I'm at work. I'm an ICU nurse, and our 8 hours duty taking care of critical patients really is that tough but I have love what i'm doing as an ICU nurse but almost all my colleagues in ICU...

*HELP!!*

I am an 18 yr old female. I passed out sitting in class. I started shaking and turned blue. Ever since I havent felt good.Very dizzy. I saw a doctor about vertigo, and was not diagnosed. My EKGs are fine, my stress echo was fine, and then the tilt table test.. during the test, after a nurse massaged my carotid artery, I passed out and my heart stopped for about 4 seconds. I shook and turned blue. My doctor is suggesting I see an electrocardiologist, and talk about pacemakers! He thinks I might ha...

Vitamin D

This may be a silly question but I have to ask because I am so paranoid about taking something that could possibly cause anymore palpitations.
My internist discovered I am deficient in Vitamin D...found this out right about the time I was having so much trouble with palpitations after receiving my PM. He wrote me a prescription for one 50,000 IU gel cap each week for 4-8 weeks. That sounds like a megadose of Vit D to me and I'm scared to take it for fear of messing something up and starting...

Just love Rancher's...Got this in my email!

A DEA officer stops at a ranch in Texas and talks with an old rancher. He tells the rancher, "I need to inspect your ranch for illegally grown drugs." The rancher says, "Okay, but do not go in that field over there," as he points out the location.
The DEA officer verbally explodes saying, "Mister, I have the authority of the Federal Government with me." Reaching into his rear pants pocket, he removes his badge and proudly displays it to the rancher. "See this badge? This badge means I am al...

Syncope and Biotronik

OK folks....
who out there has a Biotronik pacemaker that managers their syncope with its awesome CLS algorithm?

I'm symptom free since they put mine in 6 months ago.

But I may need to be considering leaving Chicago for work.

So I'm curious... what hospitals have people had a Biotronik implanted for the purposes of Syncope?

(Cause most ERs/EMTs/Medics/Cardios/etc look at me like I have 3 heads when i try to explain the CLS to them and that im ok,...

Brady Syndrome & Ocular Myasthenia Gravis

After being diagnosed with Tachycardia (rapid heartbeat), then with Brady Syndrome (slow heartbeat and an implant pacemaker)) and Ocular Myasthenia Gravis, an autoimmune disease that affects the eye muscles first, then possibly the body muscles, as the heart is.

Are there any PaceMaker Club members that have the Brtady Syndrome-Tachycardia-Myasthenia Gravis so we may compare notes, and maybe assistance together.

Thanks,

KapunaKane

Stay Out!

A policeman knocked on my door this morning, but I just locked it and sat there in complete silence.
After 20 seconds he knocked again, but I just continued to ignore it.
The knocks got louder and more frequent but I was determined not to move in the hope that he would just go away.
Then he decided to look through the window.
He shouted, "Do you think I'm stupid? I can see you in there, sir. Open the door."
I said, "You're not coming in mate!"
He said, "I don't want...

A.V. Node Ablation

Hi. I am a 62 year old male with sick sinus syndrome. I am looking for anyone who has had an A. V. Node Ablation procedure.
I have had my dual chamber pacemaker since September of 2011. Did the procedure cure your SSS, and did it improve your quality of life? I am new to the club, and this is my first post.

Thanks

Warfarin question????

l have been on warfarin for the past 24yrs & have had no problems at all until recently.
My lNR target is 4.0 l realise that is perhaps higher than usual but it is due to other heart related issues that my cardiologists want it so high.
The past couple of mths l have been having weekly tests because my lNR has been 2 point something & even though my dosage has increased my lNR continues to go down.
l realise diet can play a part in the results but my diet hasn't changed at all (l...

Timex Zone Trainer

Hello and Happy New Year!

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Timex Zone Trainer heart monitor/watch. I found one at a really good price that I couldn't pass up. I've had my pacemaker for going on 6 weeks. I would like to try to start exercising and I have been told that a heart rate monitor is a good thing to have. The sales person didn't have any advice on how it would work with a pacemaker, and she just told me I could return it if it didn't work for me. <...
