Vitamin D

This may be a silly question but I have to ask because I am so paranoid about taking something that could possibly cause anymore palpitations.
My internist discovered I am deficient in Vitamin D...found this out right about the time I was having so much trouble with palpitations after receiving my PM. He wrote me a prescription for one 50,000 IU gel cap each week for 4-8 weeks. That sounds like a megadose of Vit D to me and I'm scared to take it for fear of messing something up and starting the palps again. It seems I read that too much Vit D can cause heart issues but low Vit D can cause the same thing.
I was in to see my internist today (sinus infection and pink eye...fun!) and I asked him about it. He insisted it would not cause any problems and that it would benefit my heart more than anything.
Anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks,
Kathy

We sound a lot alike, Grateful Heart. Fair skinned and freckled! It's encouraging to know you had a good experience with the Vit D.....I guess I'll try it out tomorrow.
Thanks!
Kathy
Me too!

I struggle with taking meds, too. The less I can take the better. And I feel the same way about supplements. I can't even take a multi vitamin daily without some side affects. I guess if I just ate better and got my nutrition naturally I wouldn't have to be too concerned about supplements.
Megadose it is

BUT...TAKEIT! Your body needs Vit D, just like it needs a bunch of other stuff.
I got put on it - same dose -
three weeks ago. By a foot surgeon, of all people. My cardio heartily endorsed it; shared the foot guy's concern.
Been three weeks & no side effects. What counts is the level in your body & if they gave you that much, you must have been lower than a snake's belly in a ditch.
As described to me, the problems from too little can be far worse the too much. The 50,000 IU scared the crap out of me till I read that this is a normal dose for people as low as you & I are.

I was worried too

I also thought that was extremely high, until I asked about it and then read about it. See...knowledge is power.

Mine has been low too. I was also told to take 50,000 IU not once, but twice in the past 18 months. They are trying to give your Vitamin D a boost and hopefully keep it raised.
It didn't cause any side effects or harm, it just didn't boost it for too long for me. I've got fair Irish skin, (not complaining) so I can't get too much sun. I just burn and freckle.
