Warfarin question????

l have been on warfarin for the past 24yrs & have had no problems at all until recently.
My lNR target is 4.0 l realise that is perhaps higher than usual but it is due to other heart related issues that my cardiologists want it so high.
The past couple of mths l have been having weekly tests because my lNR has been 2 point something & even though my dosage has increased my lNR continues to go down.
l realise diet can play a part in the results but my diet hasn't changed at all (l am one of these, "everything in moderation" people) the only thing that changed over Xmas was a few more glasses of alcohol than usual but that should "thin" my blood if anything!!!
Just wondered if any of you "wise ones" out there have any comments as to why this is happening?
Wishing everyone a brilliant,happy & healthy New Year !

Electric Frank Idea

Good thinking Electric Frank. I never thought of that. Since my lab said "everyone" is having a problem keeping in range, and it's a mix on who is on Warfarin and who is on Coumadin, something like that does make since.
Irratic INR

It makes me wonder if the thinners are having quality control problems. It could also be some new food additive that has entered the market.
With the problem being so wide spread there must be a common source.
By the way, don't use thinners so I'm guessing.

My cardio's want Coumadin & not

generic warfarin. When I had my Ortho writing for warfarin after total knee replacements I had trouble regulating it. But once back on Coumadin leveled out again.
Now my only problem is eating;lots of salads/vegies to lose weight & my INR is OK bit lower than ideal.
You might see if not on Coumadin & see if that helps.

Liver

My coumadin clinic dr said it can be caused by liver function.

I feel so blessed to have this little gem implanted in me. When I think of the alternative it is quite overwhelming sometimes.
Interesting....

I have had a hell of a time controlling my INR since about March. It changes from one extreme to the other within a week. I too, get my INR checked weekly. I haven't changed my diet, started any medication, supplements, etc., so it's not that either. That is weird how yours just keeps decreasing even when you up your dose. I haven't ever had that problem.
I've mentioned to others in the past, that I did notice that Warfarin changed manufacturers about the same time I started having problems controlling my INR. I changed to Coumadin a couple of weeks ago to see if that would make a difference. I must say, it's not changing as much or as quickly, but I'm still having trouble keeping it stable. You might ask to see if you can change to Coumadin just to see if it will make a difference.
The last time I was at the lab and my INR was off again, the lab tech mentioned "everyone" is having trouble keeping their INR in range right now. Not sure why that would be, but I found it interesting that she would mention it.
I'm interested to see what others have to say about your situation. Good luck in finding what it could be.
