Could a faulty lead cause pericardial effusion?

I had a dual chamber pacemaker implanted in 2002. They replaced it in 2008. The last year the upper lead is starting to become suspect so they are watching it. I woke up early Wednesday morning and it was very painful to breath in. I had pericarditis and pericardial effusion. They drained a quart of very bloody fluid from around the heart. My question is: Could this be caused by the faulty lead? Has any one else experienced this? Thanks so much!!

Below is a newspaer article by Dr. Komaroff on heart failure or congestive heart failure that discusses in detail a problem many of us have and what can be done to help us. I found it very interesting and thought I would pass it on.
You can read it here or go to http://www.hotsr.com/news/2012/11/02/treatment-of-heart-failure-depends-on-it-178979.php to see the article.

Well the little one has arrived, she is so sweet, so that now makes 2,5 months old now.
Been getting a few chest pains had them checked it appears only stress related, my buddy is still working beautifully no problems there.
Actually got my chain saw out last week and used it, had no problems, and even re painted all the ceilings in our house, now starting out side, now that winter is over.
Hope alls well with all onhere Cindy

Great 3 days in the desert alone. Beautiful weather. Very relaxing to get away from home for a while. No phone, TV, or internet. Just me. Got in a good hour hike each day over some low hills. I have a photo or 2 I'll post in the gallery as soon as edit it down to size.
I keep being reminded of how my pacemaker has really settled down this last year. Absolutely no noticeable PVC's, and I never slowed down on the hill climbs. I know I had my HR up around 135 or so which is pushing it fo...

I had my pacemaker implant 4 weeks ago on the left side next to my colllar bone. I noticed a few days ago a little swelling right above my colar bone at the base of my neck. Didn't think too much about it and it seemed to go away. I noticed it again tonight and it's pretty swollen. Anyone experienced this? Is it something I should have checked out? My doc probably already thinks I'm crazy I've called so much trying to cope with erratic heart rhythms since the pacemaker. :-)
I hope you are OK

Just got back from a few days away, been watching the news not very nice, and first touch of the keyboard!!!!

Folks,
I just returned from the hospital and I am holding in my hand my Medtronic Adapta PM.
The PM was originally implanted on January 24, 2012 after I had Thorascopic Maze surgery. I was in a 36 BPM junctional rhythm without the pacer.
Long story short, my sinus node came back to life 14 days later; it took about 4-5 months to recover chronotropic competence but my EP basically said it was just an expensive heart monitor at this point. He did not want to tu...

Hi. I'm new here and would like to ask for advice from any members that have permanent afib and a pacemaker fitted.
I've been in permanent afib for years now, had ablations and cardioversions but all have failed. I have recently spent 10 days in hospital while my cardio experimented with medications as I had heart failure caused by uncontrolled afib - my ejection factor was 13% and a h/r of around 130. Meds have worked to get my EF up to 28% but are failing to get my h/r down and feel...

I have tooth and gum causing me greif, Doc said it was from grinding my teeth during all these emotional trails I have been going through the last few months with the new PM, I am assuming that Amox is safe for me to take with SSS. I took Cipo a few months back and it sent my heart into afib, Doctor said ER Doc should have known better that to put you on that. Cipo that is.

Does anyone know anything about them? I have been reading the posts for various people and everyone is talking about how much they are paced and different things I have no idea what they are talking about. Shouldn't I be more aware of this replacement? How do I find out more about this generator?
Going back to the Dr who implanted it is not an option.

Let’s push the negative posts down to the second page and replace them with something positive. What are you thankful for today? List three gratitudes
I am thankful for
- Sandy is gone and didn’t do much damage. Prayers she fizzles rather than wreaking havoc to our friends up north
- my Girl Scouts, having an awards ceremony today and am so proud of my girls and what they’ve accomplished
- the coaches at my gym. They continue...

I am just a one week post-op pacemaker for sick sinus syndrome and have had a roller coaster ride with my emotions. I am an RN and was really taken off guard by the emotional aspect of this. There should be more patient information about this!!!
I've also been very concerned that having a pacemaker now will dramatically shorten my life. I just turned 40. Much of the data I've read doesn't have much information/data past 30 years. Just need some reassurance! Thanks!

Mohai posted the following way down on another post and I thought this was too important to take a chance of no response so I copied and pasted it here. They're may be others thinking the same thing. Hope you don't mind Mohai. I'm sure you will have a lot of responses to ease your mind.
