I have tooth and gum causing me greif, Doc said it was from grinding my teeth during all these emotional trails I have been going through the last few months with the new PM, I am assuming that Amox is safe for me to take with SSS. I took Cipo a few months back and it sent my heart into afib, Doctor said ER Doc should have known better that to put you on that. Cipo that is.

Amoxycillin / Ciprofloxacin
by IAN MC - 2012-10-30 08:10:29
Hi wrg Yes amoxycillin is safe to take if you have Sick Sinus Syndrome. Amoxycillin is a penicillin and penicillins do not affect heart rhythm.
Ciprofloxacin belongs to a different group of antibiotics. It is a quinolone and can have cardio side effects ie it can lead to a fast irregular heartbeat , which is probably what you had..... and is the last thing you need when you have SSS !
The main thing that limits the usefulness of amoxycillin ( apart from penicillin allergies ) is the fact that it has been around for years and years and lots of bugs are now resistant to it . I hope it works for you ; you may need to combine it with something else though .
As T Man says , amoxycillin can be taken at high doses because it is a safe drug but it is more likely to cause gastro-intestinal disturbances as you raise the dosage.
Best of luck
Ian

The history of heart infection as a result of tooth infection is pretty well (in my experience ) ,..beyond doubt.
I was in hospital with a guy who was SO toxic that he was there for weeks having his blood 'washed through'. so they could work on him.
