For Mohai

Mohai posted the following way down on another post and I thought this was too important to take a chance of no response so I copied and pasted it here. They're may be others thinking the same thing. Hope you don't mind Mohai. I'm sure you will have a lot of responses to ease your mind.

Hi every one. I am not very good in English, so can any one explain to me the meaning of ( 100% paced) because from my understanding, I felt that every person with pm will end with the need of heart transplant or will die so soon. Hope I am wrong. My EF is 30 and my pm is CRTD.
Thank you

I'm glad you found us, and your English seems fine to me. The meaning of 100% paced is that your PM is working all the time for you, and it very well may do so for many years. I have had my PM two and a half years and doing fine. Some people here have had their PMs much longer and still going strong. Someone here can give a better explanation than I can, but you don't seem to be in such bad shape to need a transplant or to die soon. I hope your doctor can answer your questions better than that, but they often don't do it unless you insist on answers.

Thank you

100% Paced

by Grateful Heart - 2012-10-28 05:10:52

Some peoples pacemakers pace their heart 100% of the time, like mine. The sinus node is the natural pacemaker for our hearts. My sinus node does not send the beats to my heart anymore so the implanted pacemaker does it for me, everytime. Some other people do not need to be paced 100%, could be 50%, 40% or whatever their heart needs. Their heart can make its own beats the rest of the time. There are different reasons why some of us have our pacemakers.

Many people including those on this site have lived very full lives 20+ years with a pacemaker ( or a 2nd or 3rd one).

Hope this helps a little and eases your mind. I'm sure others will explain it a lot better. By the way, your English is just fine!

Take care,

Grateful Heart

Hello Mohai!

by SaraTB - 2012-10-28 06:10:41

Welcome to the Pacemaker Club. I am 100% paced. What this means is that my pacemaker provides an electrical impulse to the lower chambers of my heart, to keep them pumping in rhythm with the top chambers. In my case, the node which normally does this job in all our hearts, was damaged and no longer passes the impulse correctly.

In all other respects, my heart is very healthy and I expect to live a normal life span. We often need to explain that there is a difference between 'plumbing' problems and 'electrical' problems in the heart: electrical ones can be dealt with by Pacemakers.

I hope this helps clear things up for you, and provides some reassurance if you are in this situation.

Sara

Thank you Mohai

I will gladly take that blessing! The same to you and your family.

I'm sure you will be hearing from some others, it is early yet.

Hi, Mohai,

Please don't worry. I've 100% paced for nearly 38 years now.
Still going strong, too.

Enjoy the life your PM has given you. I'm betting it will be a great one if you let it!

Best to you,
Gellia

Thank you every one for giving me part of your time. Hope we all have a healthy life.

Me too

I agree with Sara as I am 100% paced due to an AV Node ablation & as it is an eletcrical problem I have been told by my Cardiologist that my heart is in great shape except for this problem which the PM solved,

CRT-D

by Thumping - 2012-10-31 10:10:07

You said you have a CRT-D device, which is a device that is supposed to pace your heart 100% of the time by design. The idea is that your pacemaker/defibrillator is bringing your heart back into sync, making sure the right and left ventricles beat at the same time. That is the reason they want you to pace as close to 100% of the time as possible, to get the best therapy for your condition. Sounds like it's doing exactly what it is meant to be doing. Good news!

You know you're wired when...

I am just now 40 but have had these blackouts all my life. I am thrilled with the pacer and would do it all over again.
