I had OHS in 2010 and got my pacemaker a few weeks later. Then had to have my pacemaker leads replaced a few weeks after my implant. Now i am again having another surgery, to remove my sternal wires from my open heart surgery(they have been causing me lots of pain). at just 16 years old this will be my 5th surgery in 1.5 years. Hoping this is the last surgery for real this time. I have had this surgery posponed 3 times already so its been a very frustrating few weeks. my new and hopefully offici...

I was recently diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. It has been a scary & challenging experience with all the palpitations & tremors that come along with the diagnosis, at least before i started treatment... it was awful. My cardiologist & primary physician have always monitored my thyroid hormones because as some of you may know a thyroid dysfunction can have cardiac implications. I was a bit surprise that within 6months or less of my last thyroid check , things went awry. The lesson learned is if yo...

I have read posts on here that pacemakers can flip. I think mine may be doing that at a slow pace. It is really painful. I do believe it hurts worse now than when I first got it done. I had it put in on August 18, 2011. I am 45 yrs old.
Every time I use my left arm I feel it. I know to expect some tenderness at times but this is ongoing now. It just started happening about a week ago. I’m going to call my...

Hi
I recently had my 3rd pacer implanted last week. When I woke up I was told I had a staph infection that had been there since my last implant 7 yrs ago. My 1st only lasted 2yrs, Dr put bottom lead in wrong place. So it use to much battery. So on to different Dr. I am on oral meds for the staph, but how will I know if it is gone. It never showed up in my blood work? I just had huge pacer site, sore. And it is still that way. Any ideas???

I had my PM implant installed Tuesday 2/28/12. Released from hospital Wed. I had a dull neck pain around my carotid artery, radiating upward from my collar bone into my jaw, and downward into my chest. This pain intensifies if I lay horizontally, or bend over from the waist. I thought that the pain was related to the surgery, and woud go away, but it has not. I have very high, hard to control blood pressure. After 4 sleepless nights I went back to the Dr who installed the PM, and he perfor...

Hi! I have had my pacemaker for 5 years and am currently 13 weeks pregnant. The skin over my pacemaker has always been thin but is stretching out even more. Has anyone found success with a product that helps make the scar area "thicker?" My cardiologist is very concerned with how thin the skin is getting and is worried it may poke through. I was curious if anyone had used a cream or ointment that thickened up the skin over scar area or had any tips on how to keep it from poking through:)Thank yo...

I had a pacemaker fitted 5 weeks ago and I have a burning feeling at the site although there is no redness or swelling. I don't feel particularly well and feel down and cry a lot. The next procedure for me is a node burn...does anyone know much about this and do they think it will make me feel better? Is it normlal to feel depressed at this stage?

I have the pacemaker/defibrillator in since May 30 2011, but what scares me is that when I lay down or go to bed I can feel my pulse beating stong near my throat and also my top chest and sometimes near my stomach and its very unconfortable and I start to panic and anxiety starts in...I asked my doctor and he said thats ok , its only the pacemaker that is causing that strong pulse. I was wondering if it is normal and if anyone else gets it when laying down........ thanks !! Ben
Fluctuations in BP cause by PM

No one seems to address the wide range of changes in BP related to PM. Doctors don't understand the Physics involved with PM. If a person has a PM that limits increases in heart rate, any exercise will cause their BP to increase. The brain needs oxygen and monitors that level by monitoring he CO2 in the blood. Hence breathing into a paper bag brings C02 back into the blood stream and cures hyperventilation. The only way to increase the the amount of oxygen reaching the brain is to get more b...

Hi Everyone,
Just joined the site to ask a question of you all. I apparently tweaked my scar tissue back in December and ever since I have had soreness in my shoulder whenever I put pressure on it or lift something heavy or even sleep on that side. My cardiologist said that having surgery to remove the scar tissue and maybe creating a new pocket could relieve the pain. Has anyone done this? I feel it might be unnecessary, anyone have any opinions? This is my fifth device so there is q...

I have had a Medtronic pacemaker for 20 years, I'm now 67. I just had the third battery implanted two weeks ago. Also they replaced the 20 year leads. The ventricular lead was repositioned one week ago after it dislodged. Now one week after that surgery I have redness at the site of the battery. Family doctor put me on Bactrim for 10 days. I'm supposed to have interrogation next Tues, that was scheduled anyway. I am concerned about MRSA. What is the general outcome for these infections?...

I have an employee who has a pacemeker and spends a considerable amout of time working in heavy manufacturing industry. He recently had an issue and had to be rushed to the emergency. We determined that he had an adverse reaction to someting in the customers site. Is there information available concerning typical hazards one might face in the manufacturing sector or issues like I.E.; Extreme temperatures, working heights, physical lifting. I realizing that there may not be standards set, but are...
