I have the pacemaker/defibrillator in since May 30 2011, but what scares me is that when I lay down or go to bed I can feel my pulse beating stong near my throat and also my top chest and sometimes near my stomach and its very unconfortable and I start to panic and anxiety starts in...I asked my doctor and he said thats ok , its only the pacemaker that is causing that strong pulse. I was wondering if it is normal and if anyone else gets it when laying down........ thanks !! Ben

Sometimes I can have that feeling when I lie down. It makes me nervous to hear my heart chugging away, but I change to a different position and it goes away.
Actually, I shouldn't be nervous! The problem is, then you start listening to try and hear if there are any skipped beats or things like that. Good Lord, Uffda, turn to another position so you can't hear it and go to sleep!! lol

Hi Ben! I'm 24 years old, and I have had 3 pacemakers since 2006. I know the exact feelings that you are talking about! Would you mind if I asked what it is that you need the PM for? I found that when I get that pulsing feeling in my throat, it is actually the pacemaker pacing my heart, and sometimes my blood pressure levels changing. Almost every night when I lay down I feel my heart beat harder. For me, its because my blood pressure changes, and my heart beats differently. When it beats differently, the pacer kicks in. Nothing to be anxious about, it means its doing its job! And it is definitely a normal feeling, though it is annoying. Keep posting, this is the best place to get information :) Take care!
