New member, kind of confused

've never had any symptoms or anything odd on an ECG. I had a normal ECG at an annual checkup in early November 2015. My regular doc wanted to put me, at age 59, on a weight loss and exercise program, but I guess he worried about my excess weight and insisted on a 24-hour Holter monitor before he'd let me really exert myself. I wore the monitor for 24 hours, mailed it in for analysis, and a few days later got a frantic call from the head of the cardiology practice saying come see me this instant...

DIY Pacemaker Revision

An 87-year-old man was referred to our institution after selfextraction of the atrial lead of a DDD-R cardiac pacemaker implanted for symptomatic total atrioventricular block 2 years previously. The patient claimed to have understood the lead to be a suture thread and thus had pulled the entire atrial lead out without realizing, probably after the lead eroded the pocket and became visible.

Heart rate settings

What is your pacemaker set at for heart beats per minute and what is your age? I am getting a new pacemaker next week. I had the old one for 8 years. The old one is set at 70 BPM.. I am 75 years old and feel lightheaded at times. Would raising the BPM to 75 help with lightheadedness?

Hi, I'm Elisa, I just had my 4th Pace Maker Installed 11/2015. Due to a cardiologist not listening to me about the type of PM was told I have to have the rest of my lifeI had to have a lot more advanced Pace Maker. In Oct 2002-Feb 2012, I had a BI Ventricular CRT Pace Maker, Medtronics. Then In Feb 2002, I started with a new Cardiologist and my Pace Maker was very low battery, so he changed it out to a Basic very basic Regular Pace Maker, after my CHF getting extremely worse...

Scheduled for ICD

I am 50 yrs old from NC. Healthy man with Afib. Had had it for 10 yrs. and am always in Afib . I am otherwise symptom free and my doctors , after reading my echocardiogram don't need to see me for a year because I am in seemingly great health. The doctors feel that I am a good candidate for a ICD and I am scheduled for it to be implanted in January. I am just trying to get as much feedback from folks with a similar situation and how there ICD is working for them. Thanks all!

Follow up care.

After checking in with my Dr., ten days after surgery, I asked about seeing him again. No, he said, not necessary. This seems strange since I had no pulse in the ER. Prior to surgery. Is this normal not to have a cardiologist? I appreciate all the help from this site.

question please

Have done exceptionally well with now my second ICD, compliments of a 2004 heart virus. Last month, one day while sitting, I suddenly felt my surroundings fading as in nearly passing out. This happened again 3 times yesterday within a several hour time frame. I am always sitting when this happens, usually for about 15 minutes. My heart will jump/pound around at the time but with no pain though. After I lie down, the symptoms gradually subside. I am documenting the events for my next appoi...

might get pm

I don't have a pm...yet but its bound to come up. I've had about 10 fainting spells since September. I have PVC current cardiologist says he doesn't think that's causing it and kinda brushed me off. I know my body well enough to know something isn't right. I'm lightheaded all the time along with fatigue and recently short of breath just by standing. My question is if anyone had fainting spells before did the pm stop them after?

3-lead Defib Pacemaker Candidate

Hello: I am a 60 year old female who was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy (enlarged heart) several years ago. I have been on a regimen of medications since then but over the course of years, my infraction rate has dropped to only 27% (normal appears to be 60-65%). I have a teleconference set up with the heart surgeon on December 21 and I wonder if this group could give me some ideas about the kinds of questions I should be asking. I am trying to read up as much as I can and have started...

Bionic in Africa

Howdy, well here I am, turning 34 and pursuing my dream of working in Africa doing what I do best! I got the OK go-ahead from my cardiologist with the promise not to get cut on here in Nairobi and to return to my home base for a can replacement. I've had my St. Jude PM for five and a half years now with absolutely no problems. until now...weeks after arriving I have been feeling a very distinct pain, closer to an ache in my chest that i can feel down my left arm and up my neck some times. I...

Newbie

Hi my name is Peyton and I am a 47 year old male from NC. Just received my pacemaker last Wednesday. While I am an optimist and usually handle life changing events relatively well, I am sure there are times when I will need more or a different kind of support than my family and friends can provide. I imagine that those without these devices just don't understand as much as they try and as well intended as they are. I'm no stranger to having foreign objects such as titanium plates and screws in m...

A positive story

Hi All,
Have recently read an article by a guy called Luke Robertson
in my mountaineering mag. He had a rare cyst removed from his brain and had a PM fitted for complete heart block, so how do you bounce back ? you aim to trek across the south pole on his own!!!!!
Guess he has no trouble with his device getting in the way (he is carrying a pack and pulling a sledge),or with repetitive arm movement (using walking poles).
While he may not have other heart issues it is still en...
