Hello: I am a 60 year old female who was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy (enlarged heart) several years ago. I have been on a regimen of medications since then but over the course of years, my infraction rate has dropped to only 27% (normal appears to be 60-65%). I have a teleconference set up with the heart surgeon on December 21 and I wonder if this group could give me some ideas about the kinds of questions I should be asking. I am trying to read up as much as I can and have started a list but am sure I'm missing what could potentially be some important questions. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks!

I have had my teleconference and am now waiting for the call for me t have the implant. It was a great Christmas present to get. I live alone and have been very nervous since being diagnosed because with this condition, you don't have an "incident" or a warning of any kind - you just expire - a disturbing thing to live with when you know there's no help available. To know that I now will have some help if I should need it has given me great comfort. I don't know all there is to know but followed the advice of all of you - did my research - and made a list of questions. I am happy and hopeful that I will get back my quality of life. I will keep you posted - looking forward to my "angel" too! :D

But I think it will make me feel a lot better. My stamina to walk is already better, even right after surgery. They had me walk all around the floor before they would release me. I did so without being exhausted and winded the way I had been.

No questions to offer...just a little extra support. A good attitude helps in the recovery process. IMHO
Like Patch said, it's like having an angel on your shoulder. If you look at it that way, it's very comforting. Most of the time I forget I have it....so does my family. lol
I've had my original one for 7 years and counting. If you think of any questions for us....ask away.
