I am planning to have an AV ablation plus a pm.
I have heard that it is possible to have the procedure under only local anesthesia.
I have myalgic encephalomyelitis, also know as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. There is no evidence, only anecdotes, but many docs say be sure NOT to use certain classes of anesthesia as a safeguard, because some pts have been seriously affected by anesthesia.
How do I get through to the ep? He refused to talk to me on the phone. Actually I think I need to...

At the age of 50 I was told that I had a low pulse (at rest lowest 31), irregular heartbeat, & some fibrillations. I went through a battery of tests, had 2nd & 3rd opinions & was told that my heart was strong, it corrected itself & I would need one someday. That was 10 years ago. I do not take any medications for my heart, originally did, but did not like how it made me feel. Have worked out pretty strenuously at the gym 3-4 times a week - full body workouts - for the past 4 years. Recently...

Good morning,
I'm curious as to how many of us are currently taking/or have taken Amiodarone long term...and if any have experienced adverse side effects.
I'm coming up on two years at 200mg with no side effects...and monitored regularly.
Thanks!
Ron

http://www.cardiomyopathy.org/S-ICD-study.html
Patients with a new internal defibrillator (ICD) can safely undergo an MRI, says a small study of the first patients with the devices
The location and design of the new S-ICD, which does not have leads into the heart, make it safe for magnetic resonance imaging, says lead researcher Dr Jiri Keller from the Na Homolce Hospital in Prague.
The new device, which is fitted under the skin rather than in the heart, is...

Can you tell when your pacemaker kicks in ? I have low heart rate. My heart this morning just sped up for about one minute. Then subsided.

Today I learned I might need an MRI, but the orthopedist doubted if any hospital in my small NC city would be up to the task. My PM is not MRI compatible.
I know it can be done at Johns Hopkins and I would travel there if necessary, but I'd rather stay closer to home if I can. Does anyone know if Duke, UNC or Bowman Gray have MRI capability for PM patients? Or somewhere else--in Virginia or the Carolinas, even Georgia?
BTW the dr was really impressed at how much I knew abou...

Hello,
my name is Clareyne de Vries and am currently working on a report that entails the history and product phases of the cardiac pacemaker for a subject in the University of Twente.
It should include a part about the changes in price over the years (since 1950's), however, there in lies my problem. I cannot find anything on prices about pacemakers, even after contacting musea.
I was hoping some one here could give me some insight, especially from the older generations.

First PM implanted in December. How long does it take for the site to become less sensitive? Can't let the bra strap touch it because it gets sore. Any suggestions?

Hello =)
Being new to all this PM lark, I wonder whether it's worth getting a medical alert bracelet or necklace made. I'd appreciate any views and advice.
Stay healthy,
Lynsey.

I haven't been on this site in a while, as I've been doing pretty well with my pacer. I've had my pacer for 3 1/2 years. I also have POTS. I got my pacer due to severe bradycardia (30's - 40's). My low rate is set at 70 and I feel pretty good with that. I saw my electrophysiologist yesterday and he was concerned that I'm pacing too much in the lower chamber...an increase from 20% 6 months ago to 60% at my most recent pacer check. He indicated that over time this could cause problems for me, even...

I received a letter in the mail over the holidays that my beloved EP, just up and resigned, leaving practice. Needless to say I was devastated. No warning or anything. He was the one that finally figured out that a pacemaker was the best treatment for me even though I am on the younger side, and I was borderline for needing one. I pace 25% of the time in the atrium with SSS but also have some NCS going on. Life has been much better paced in the year I have had it.
So, I did some re...

I have just bought a book :-
" Pacemakers made Easy " . It is written by Carl Robinson who is a senior cardiac physiologist in a UK hospital. It has 149 pages of well-written, clearly illustrated content covering most aspects of the joys of having a PM:-
- Very clear description of what a PM implant involves
- Great explanations of the various PM settings i.e.
Pacemaker Mode / Pacing threshold/ Sensitivity / Lower Rate Limit / Upper Rate limit / Sen...

I am a 80 yr. old female and have been paced for 8 years at 100% due to an ablation for afib. I am scheduled for a new pace maker on January 28. Am pretty healthy with no other problems. What can I expect? The wires are ok so just means replacement of the pacemaker. Been relying on you guys for years. Sure appreciate this club. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks. DD
