Good morning,
I'm curious as to how many of us are currently taking/or have taken Amiodarone long term...and if any have experienced adverse side effects.
I'm coming up on two years at 200mg with no side effects...and monitored regularly.
Thanks!
Ron

Greetings at the Mile High State

Colorado is really the mile high state now. What with the MJ being legal out there now. Wonder if you have problems with people driving?
Was on Amiodarone for about a week, took me off as it caused liver problems. When I was in the six day coma, since I couldn't tell them not to use it, woke up bright yellow. My skin was orange and the whites of my eyes were yellow. So they took me off of it. Now I'm having problems with what they call a "fatty" liver. Same problems as if I was an alcoholic in the advanced stages of liver failure.
I'm glad you can take Amiodarone, it's sheer poison for me.

Keep up to date with your blood work to make sure your liver is not being affected.
Thanks Everyone!

I really appreciate the feedback from everyone.
I asked the question...primarily because my EP suggests we start tapering off the Amiodarone next month...and eventually eliminate it completely.
I'm still very concerned about doing so...as in March of 2013 I was shocked 39 times...over a period of two days...31 at home and 8 in the hospital. Sooooo, even though I've been good since then...those flashbacks still rear their ugly head occasionally.
I have three leads to my CRT-D (Boston Scientific)...and one of the leads was turned off in March 2013 after undergoing a cardiac ablation...which the EP theorizes caused the event.
Thanks again!
Ron

Why do you want to know ???

Hi Ron You are doing well on it , some people aren't . I am baffled as to why you want to hear the others' bad news. Although it has been around for many years, amiodarone is still one of the most effective anti-arrythmic drugs around
Do you want to gloat or are you a pessimist waiting for side-effects to occur ??
The possible side-effects are well-documented and are listed on the patient information insert. As with all drugs , some people get them most don't.
I have read that 15 % of people taking amiodarone experience side-effects in the first year , 50 % get side-effects with long term use.
Looking at it more positively , almost 9 out of 10 patients get no side-effects in year one, Half of all people taking it never ever get side-effects at all.
I hope that you are one of the lucky ones !
Cheers
Ian
