Anybody from Australia

Hi everybody,
Just wondering if anybody is from Australia,on this site this is such a good site and has been my constant place of reference when things bothered me, I usually have my fears dispelled by knowing I am not the only only going through this. Thank you all for your words of encouragement to members and for your very informative post.

electric guitar

i see multiple posts regarding use of electric guitars by those with pacemakers --does the same apply to pacemakers implanted in the abdomen? As playing an electric guitar would place the pickup (magnet) directly over the pacemaker in this case, does this pose a potential problem or threat?

New To Site - Opinions Needed

Hi all! I do not currently have a pacemaker, but I am looking at the need for one in my future.

I was diagnosed with 3rd Degree AV Block when I was a teenager. At rest I have a steady rhythm on both atrium and ventricles, but they are completely disassociated with each other. Looking back at my past history, my Cardiologist back then determined that it was congenital and told me that when I started feeling like I could not function any longer, that I may need a pace maker.

Disney

Going to Disney in April. Was told I cannot go on roller coasters & Tower of Terror! Really! It's Disney! I'm not going on Space Mt. But Thunder Mt? & Tower of Terror are my favorites! Anyone else been on them? Any Problems? Have an ICD. Thoughts! I' aware of the magnet fields.

2:1 Induced block follow-up

Hi All (especially Pam, rnff2 and Tracey),

Posted a follow up to my original post rather late (I was working then....off now), so copied it below & so hopefully you can read this one now:

It is rather good news to hear that I am not alone with this rather unusual issue, as you all seem to know exactly what I am talking about. (If any talk of needing extraneous electrical equipment stuck inside you to keep you alive can be quoted as "good news"....but you know what I mean)!...

New member saying "HI"

Can't sleep and came across this site. I'm a 58 yr old female and I've have had my pacemaker and defib. for about 5 years now. V-Tach was my issue... out of the blue. Driving alone and tried to pass out 3 or 4 times before I made it to a rural hospital. Had no idea what was wrong. Sure didn't notice any heart issue. But my dad had the same thing when he was about my age....so when I found out what it was, it really wasn't a huge surprise. Except he had had heart damage from Rheumatic Fever, so w...

Northern California?

Hi Everyone,

I had a pacemaker implanted a little over two months ago and have just moved from NYC to California (not really planned, I would have waited to get the PM after moving if I'd known!)

Anyway, I now need to find a new dr here and I'm not sure where to start so I thought I would see if anyone had any recommendations?

I am considering UCSF (they have an electrophisiology and arrhythmia service department) and also Stanford Medical Center (they also hav...

New Pacemaker

Getting one Wednesday. Not scared, but a little anxious. Low heart rate and occasional pauses of up to two and one-half seconds between beats. Constantly tired and praying for some energy. Glad to have a place to discuss this change in my 65 year old life.

good book

I just finished a book by Dick Cheney and his doctor, Reiner called "Heart". It was amazing. I learned so much about the functions of our heart and all that can go wrong, but also all the medical advances. It is full of cardio history of medical techniques and gadgets. A disclaimer: I am not a fan of Cheney, never thought I would read a word he wrote, but for the most part he kept out politics. I was not offended even once by his rhetoric. He trades off with his doctor writing in the first perso...

Can someone who has a pacemaker take Amoxicillin?

I am 74 years old and had to get a pacemaker in January 2013. I have gotten along well with my pacemaker. I noticed yesterday I was getting what felt like a head cold or sinus infection. Was coughing and had been told by my dr. that I could take the original formula of Robitussin for cough and Tylenol. I have also been told I could take a Zyrtec. I have Amoxicillin here as I have to take it before I go for dental appointments because I have a knee replacement.

My question to yo...

Having a Cold and "Procedures"

I'm scheduled for a colonoscopy this week. I have been really sick the past 5 days: sore throat with raspy voice, lots of sinus congestion and very hard coughing with headaches. No fever or body aches so it's not the flu.

The Gastro Nurse called for scheduling and I told her (she could hear) about the cold to be sure they wanted me to show up like this. She said as long as I don't have a fever they will go ahead with it. It's a very busy office so I know they are not hurting for...

PVC's

Hello all,

Does anyone know if having a pacemaker implanted increases the likelihood of having increases PVC's?

Are these PCV's defined by the pacemaker's settings and definition?

Does the average person have them also, who don't have a pacemaker?

Any feedback would be great!

Medicare question

I plan on retiring at age 65 (in 2 years) and will then be on Medicare instead of my employer-provided health plan. It so happens that my PM battery life is projected for about the same additional two year period. For those of you who have received your devices while covered under Medicare, did you have any problems with what would - or would not - be covered by Medicare? If my battery life on my current device is going to take me past age 65, should I delay retirement and continue working so th...

Good PM Report

Had my 4 week post implantation appointment today and my pacemaker is working beautifully. Only paced 1% of the time in the atria and something negligible like .01% in the ventricle. Had about 5,000 PVC's which they said were normal. It is there if I need it so I won't pass out from what my EP doc said was 2nd degree heart block. The PA also said if I only use it this little it says it will last 16 1/2 years! I imagine as I age it could be more likely that I would experience heart block, si...

Medic alert bracelet?

I am scheduled to get a pacemaker on Christmas Eve, so am trying to plan things. Do most people with PMs wear a medic alert tag or bracelet? I know medic alert offers memberships that include a device registry and can store your medical history.

So, medic alert, yes or no, and why or why not?

I finished 29th in London in 2 hours 20 minutes 30 seconds which is my fastest with or without a device so clearly it didn’t slow me down ! I had no problems apart from some slight chaffing on my scar - more Vaseline next time.
