Medicare question

I plan on retiring at age 65 (in 2 years) and will then be on Medicare instead of my employer-provided health plan. It so happens that my PM battery life is projected for about the same additional two year period. For those of you who have received your devices while covered under Medicare, did you have any problems with what would - or would not - be covered by Medicare? If my battery life on my current device is going to take me past age 65, should I delay retirement and continue working so that I can enjoy the full benefit of my employer-provided health plan, or does it not make any difference?

I am 68 and had a pacemaker placed December 2nd, Medicare had no problems with insurance.

Be sure to get Medicare supplement as stated above.

Best wishes on retirement.

Mayor,

I got my PM on Medicare and that plus the home monitoring and all follow ups have been covered. Actually the coverage has probably been better than my employee plan and that was a Cadillac Plan.

Oh yes, be sure to get Medicare supplement (Medigap) insurance

By the way retirement is great!

Things are changing constantly, I don't think you can plan that far ahead right now. I just found out yesterday what my plans are starting 1/1/14, we found out two weeks ago our current plan was raising rates 48% so we've been on a frantic shopping mission after having the same insurance for as long as I can remember. Two years from now? It's anyone's guess but it's safe to say the pm will be covered by Medicare or whatever insurance you end up on at that time, so don't worry about it and retire when you want to.

Save up, one thing most new plans- government or private- have in common is a huge deductible.

But I think it will make me feel a lot better. My stamina to walk is already better, even right after surgery. They had me walk all around the floor before they would release me. I did so without being exhausted and winded the way I had been.
