Pregnant with CHB no pacemaker yet

Hi everyone :)
I am just hoping to get some advice pls from any ladies out there who have gone through a natural labour (rather than cesarean) successfully/no complications PRIOR to having a pacemaker inserted?
I have recently been diagnosed with CHB (congenital and asymptotic) and recommended to wait for a PM until after the birth, however as 'precaution' my cardiologist said to have a cesarean birth over natural. I am devastated about this as I feel so strongly towards a natural bir...

INFORMATIVE WEB-SITE

Hi Everyone,

I came across an interesting web-site today that I thought some would find interesting in learning more about their specific condition. You can access the site at
www.broadcastmed.com.

You will see a list of different health fields: Cardiology, oncology, etc. They even have a digital library of discussing various procedures and how they are performed. This month they have a video showing the replacement of a CRT-D device.
Pretty cool stuff.

strange pattern

Have any of you had this experience? A normal heart rate of about 70. Buuuutttt, a rhythm that goes like this: Beat, beat, beat, significant pause, beat, beat, beat, pause. Basically three beats followed by a totally missed beat. The pattern varies to 4 or five beats with a pause and then goes back to the three beats and pause pattern. The other symptoms include the urge to cough and a queasy felling in my chest but no pain. I am supposed to get an event monitor tomorrow (been waiting a week fo...

However I recently lost my job and seem to find it hard to find new employment.

I did apply for a job but they know I have a pacemeker and seem to be ignoring my application.

Any comments anybody?

driving lience

Hi I've just passed my driving test and sent off for my licence and I told them I have a pacemaker, they have said I've got to fill a medical form out, is it OK to drive with a pacemaker? As I need a car to get about because I get short of breath and I have a congenital heart condition too, a car is my lifeline and I don't want to lose it before I've got it. :(

38 with breast augmentation- Poss complications?

I am scheduled to get my PM in just a few weeks. I am a very active 38 year old mother of 3. I live in a very warm climate and spend several months of the year in bikinis, strapless tops, tank tops etc. I had breast augmentation 7 yr ago. Has anyone with existing sub-muscular breast implants had any complication with a sub muscular PM? How about scarring?

Morning all

Just checking in. Hope everybody has been doing well.

Nothing really new going on with me. Had a set back from the new meds that was making me cough all the time. It looks like I will have to try something else. I am due to go back to New Orleans on the 14 to see my EP. They talking about adding a 4th wire to my CRT-D. I was suppose to had an appointment with him on my last trip, but fell thru the cracks. This makes us having to make two trips this month.

Now, I been dealin...

Has anyone had mri safe PM?

Hi,
I am new here and asking this for my husband (43 yrs) who may be getting a PM soon. I just like to get info on the pros and cons of PM in general and what your experience has been with PM in general. We are just new to the whole PM topic and now trying to get as much information as possible to make an informed decision. He is very active and moderately athletic and doctor suggested mri safe in case he needs to get mri in future because of his active lifestyle. He has been diagnosed w...

Question

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone can shed some light on some recent changes I've had on my pacemaker.

My upper rate limit no longer has a upper rate, it has been removed. it was set at 180bpm.

At the same visit, when my upper rate limit was removed, my PVARP then was programmed to 250ms from 270ms.

I have a Medtronic Adapta - Mode Setting is DD1.

Can anyone shed some light on why this change took place, I'm trying to avoid any unnecess...

Gymnastics?

My 4yo daughter recently had a pacemaker implanted in her abdomen for a 2nd degree heart block with syncope and seizures. I don't fully understand her activity restrictions. The doctor has told us she wont be able to play any contact sports like football or karate. Is gymnastics OK. She has been in gymnastics since 8months old and loves it. What about soccer where the ball could hit her stomach? Any advice would be helpful. Up to this point she has been an extremely active kid who loves playing...

Magnesium

Elleninminn: you might be the gullible one! Most doctors will run a blood test, but blood serum test can results can be misleading. The body must keep serum levels within a tight range, or the heart stops. Consequently, serum levels are maintained at the expense of levels inside cells. Subsequently, essential minerals can appear normal in the blood and be deficient within the cell.

Magnesium deficiencies range range from 50% to 68% in the general populations In the US. An imbalance or...

silver lining

I am so excited, just wanted to share!! I am 4 weeks post op from receiving my new friend. This weekend I finally was able to see the silver lining; I knew it would come, but was starting to get a bit discouraged at when that time was going to come. After my surgery, I continued to have extreme fatigue, and some shortness of breath as well as some tachycardic episodes. I have had some tweeks in my settings and noticed some minor improvements. I still continued to drag through my day. However, th...

Rate Responsiveness and mowing

My office sits on about five acres which my wife and I alternate mowing (because we enjoy it) on our John Deere Garden tractor. The terrain is bumpy. Will this bumpy motion effect my rate responsive pace maker, e.g. Increasing my pulse? And if so, will the effect be that I am somewhat more tired when I get done? Obviously, just being implanted last week, I will not be on the mower the rest of this season - just thinking ahead to spring.

Pacemaker and Death

We focus so much on living with our pacemakers but I got to wondering what happens at the time of death. Found this article by a cardiologist in Omaha. Warning: not for the faint of heart!!! : )

Vitamin D??

Just read something that was very interesting and started putting a couple of pieces together. I'm not sure where I read this but I think someone on this board said something about low amounts of Calcium and Phosphorus can contribute to A-fib-- Now I just read
"The major biologic function of vitamin D is to maintain normal blood levels of calcium and phosphorus. Vitamin D aids in the absorption of calcium, helping to form and maintain strong bones."--so can a low level of Vitamin D contrib...

The benefits of dying

A six-year-old goes to the hospital with her mother to visit her grandpa who has just had a PM implant. When they get to the hospital, she runs ahead of her mother and bursts into her grandpa's room.

"Grandpa, grandpa," she says excitedly,"as soon as mommy comes into the room, make a noise like a frog!"

"What?" said her Grandpa.

"Make a noise like a frog because mommy said that as soon as you croak, we're all going to Disney World!"

Cheers
