driving lience

Hi I've just passed my driving test and sent off for my licence and I told them I have a pacemaker, they have said I've got to fill a medical form out, is it OK to drive with a pacemaker? As I need a car to get about because I get short of breath and I have a congenital heart condition too, a car is my lifeline and I don't want to lose it before I've got it. :(

I see you are from the UK. but you don 't say exactly when you had your PM fitted.

You can drive without any problems one week after implant but you have to notify the DVLA which is presumably the form that you have. Providing you are not blacking out or having periods of dizziness you will be given the OK to drive.

Enjoy your car and your driving!

..................................congratulations on passing your Driving Test.

IAN MC is correct, you should not have any problems with DVLA...if you do encounter any snags, don't hesitate to get in touch with the British Heart Foundation, a very well informed outfit who are there not just for thier valuable research work but also to give sound advice on just the kind of stuff that you are looking for...get them on:

Thanks for all your comments its made me feel better. I had my pacemaker may 2013 and I've never had any blackouts or dizziness. I just want to know that dvla won't take my licence off me because of my pacemaker. :( helen uk

You know you're wired when...

You have rhythm.

As for my pacemaker (almost 7 years old) I like to think of it in the terms of the old Timex commercial - takes a licking and keeps on ticking.
