Picked up my ICD yesterday

Two months ago I had my every-other-year cardiac exam (stress-echo, EKG, Halter, and other stuff involving goopy things stuck to my chest). That led to a 48 hour Halter test, an ElectroPhysiology exam, and then 3 weeks on a cardiac event monitor (an impressively bad system, by the way). After the EP exam my Doctor said it was time to get an ICD because my conduction was too slow.

That led to two weeks of psychosomatic "I'm about to pass out" episodes, concerns about having the defibr...

Update (job + walking)

Hi all
Thank you for all your replies to my 2 recent posts. I haven't posted on here for a little while & suddenly so much is happening with me that I've posted 3 messages in a week!

WALKING....further to my post on Sunday about my recovering SA node, I am doing great with my walking now. I'm due for another PM check in just over 2 weeks & my plan is to do as much walking as I can so that they can see if my %atrial pacing is going down as my SA node takes over more on exertion.

Good afternoon everybody

Feeling a bit better today after running a high fever on and off the last 3 days. Yesterday, they pulled the hickman and got back some of the test that showed a couple infections. They been pumping a bunch of meds into me around the clock.

This morning I felt good enough to get out the bed. Even went for a very short walk. So, I guess I heading in the right direction.

Future treatments. No more hickmans! They will be starting to wing me off the dobutamine later today. That...

Pacer Clinic

I had my first PM implant on 4/4/13. Due to an anomoly it had to be implanted on right side instead of left. My Pacer clinic is scheduled for 5/18/13 . After reading others comments, I'm wondering why my Pacer clinic is scheduled so late after surgery. Should I call my cardio dr and question this? Does my PM not need monitoring until then? Thx for your info and help.

New here

Hi everyone don't know where to start but I am having an EPS study with ablation on Tuesday. I've recently been dxed with PSVT and put on Toprolol to try and stop the PSVT's but it made me feel worse so the dr. is going ahead with the EPS and ablation and said that I might end up with a pacemaker. (depending on what he finds) Before I started the drug the holter monitor reveled 3 sec plus sinus pauses mostly at night. now the new dx according to my latest EOB (from insur.) is PSVT and SND. I've...

Too sensitive?

i just had a single chamber medtronics sensia sr put in a couple of days ago. I noticed that on the ride home it seemed that it was set too sensitive and the ride home was making the heart rate go up from bumps in the car. Is this possible? Is this feature adjustable by a programmer?

Transplant update

All my tests came back great. If it weren't for my heart, I'd be in perfect health! I am approved for a heart transplant and will be getting my pager soon. Now the waiting begins! My husband told me I need to get some hobbies to keep my mind busy, I think he is right. I don't want to sit around and get depressed waiting for my call.

Celebration

Hello,

A message for my friends at the Pacemaker Club about my very good fortune today. Yes, it is kind of personal, but if I don't tell you I'm afraid no one will.

Dottie and I are celebrating our 64th wedding anniversary today. I say celebrating, actually our celebration activity could be taking place during a church service and no one would even notice because that is how quiet we will be. But the fact it includes a 64 for an I.D. makes us very happy.

Jobs!

Hi All
I know this is off topic but I just had to let you know this exciting news!

My husband lost his job in December, after 13 years there, but today he started a new job at our local hospital. He has never worked for the NHS before (UK), so it is all completely new for him, but it is great news that he has got another job.

And tonight I've applied for a new job!! I worked for the NHS for 32 years, from age 17, but last year took early retirement at 50 due to ongoing...

Looking Out for Our Loved Ones

We members of the PMC know we have a heart condition in one form or another. Doctor’s appointments, PM/ ICD checks and sometimes medical tests have become the norm for us. But we may have loved ones or know of others who have not been to a Doctor for many years.

An acquaintance of ours (friend of a friend) recently went to the Doctors for a long overdue checkup. The Doctor did not like something he saw on the EKG and referred him to a Cardiologist. 2 weeks went by and he did not...

Adjustable massaging/vibrating bed

Ok, I know this sounds weird, but we have a tempurpedic bed with an adjustable base that has a vibrating massage feature. Do you think it's safe to use the vibration with the pm? I have a EP appt Friday so I can ask then. I just got my pm last week though so I'm doing a lot of laying around in bed recovering. :)

Appt tomorrow at transplant clinic

I got all my tests done and I see the cardio at the transplant clinic tomorrow afternoon to go over the results of all my tests. I'm getting a little nervous about that. I am hoping I will get on the transplant list after my appt tomorrow. It sure brings up all different emotions all at once! I'll keep you posted.
