Update (job + walking)

Hi all
Thank you for all your replies to my 2 recent posts. I haven't posted on here for a little while & suddenly so much is happening with me that I've posted 3 messages in a week!

WALKING....further to my post on Sunday about my recovering SA node, I am doing great with my walking now. I'm due for another PM check in just over 2 weeks & my plan is to do as much walking as I can so that they can see if my %atrial pacing is going down as my SA node takes over more on exertion.

I no longer get the chest pain I was getting on walking briskly, since they increased my upper rate to 140 (from 130). I had a lovely long walk in the UK sunshine today & felt great. I've done 4 walks this week which is a big improvement for me. Aiming for a few more next week.

One question I would like to ask is....has anyone had rate response ON when they didn't need it & did you get any symptoms because it was on but you didn't need it? I am getting a few strange symptoms while doing things around the house & am just wondering if it's because my SA node is trying to work but is "competing" with the rate response. I am going to ask the Head of Pacing, who I am seeing in 2 weeks, whether the rate response should be turned off to see how I get on.

JOB....the closing date for the Bank Admin job I applied for on Wednesday was yesterday. Today I got a phone call offering me the job! That's without an interview! They said my application was really good as I've got 32 years NHS experience & years of Admin experience. BUT they want people who can work full time so they asked me if I could do full time. I explained that I haven't worked full time since 1996 & I really don't feel that I can work full time. We had a long discussion about it & they said I could possibly work 3 days a week but I have to commit to the same 3 days a week & work 9-5 on those days. It is Bank work so they use people to fill in for permanent hospital staff who are absent etc. Hubby is working on the Bank too, as a Domestic. They said that the Bank Admin work is usually for 3 months at a time in one post, then you move to cover another post.....there is ongoing work all the time.

Anyway, they want me to think about it over the weekend & let them know on Monday if I can work full time or which days I can commit to if I can't do full time. The only day I can't work is on Mondays. I am going to let them know I definately can't work full time but can work Tuesdays to Fridays, but only 3 days a week. If that is not acceptable then I won't be able to take the job. I always think things happen in life for a reason, & if I don't get the job because of the hours, then it wasn't meant to be. I'm fine with that.

What is strange is that we had this discussion at 2.30pm & at 4pm they e-mailed me passwords to do the online training courses you have to do for the job! Hubby had to do them too. It is odd they have sent them to me even though we haven't agreed on the hours....they are very keen!

Hubby is doing ok in his new job at the same hospital. He started on Wednesday. There is lots to learn but he is being trained as he goes along. He has been working on a surgical ward & enjoying meeting the patients. He has never worked for the NHS before. His last job was in Sainsbury's supermarket, in the bakery dept. Big change for him.

I'll keep you posted!

Best wishes
Janey

Well done on the job news, they sound as though they REALLY want you so hopefully will be happy with the hours you are prepared to do.
Going back to your last post & the situation you had with some old friends of yours. Please dont take offence at their "ideas on PM's" l think pacemakers when they first "appeared" were pretty scary things "keeping people alive who would otherwise be dead" !!!!!
Maybe show them this website & they can read what some of the folk here are capable of, running, cycling etc & maybe they will realise that going to work when you have a PM is no big deal & nothing to be scared about.
My colleagues at work treat me exactly the same as they did pre PM & that is how it should be.
Hope you hear something definate soon & be sure to let us know :-)
