Pookie's update

Hi everyone,

For those of you who know me and might be wondering where I've been -- I do pop in on a semi-regular basis, to read all the posts/comments, but I haven't posted or commented in a very long time.

Just letting you all know that I'm still around:)

Take care,
Pookie

When does the pm settle?

So a curious question? I am now 16 days post implant, finally back to work, and feeling better. A little tired, but I think that's cuz I'm used to sleeping in and taking naps during the day, and not used to working my 12 hr shifts :) Anyways....my question. How long does it take until the pm settles down into its pocket, and is no longer visible? I don't really care that it's visible, I just start to worry that there might be something wrong. Thoughts? and thanks in advance.

Do pacemakers reset on their own?

My friend recently received a pacemaker. She told me that every night her pacemaker "resets" at 2:00 a.m. and wakes her up. She said it causes a fluttering feeling in her heart. Do most pacemakers reset every night? I don't remember my doctor telling me this but I know that I also wake up often during the night and don't know why.

Suggestions and first awesome thing?

Hello,

I am having my first pacemaker put in day after tomorrow for heartblock. I was wondering if anyone could give me any other suggestions on what else I might need to prepare for the surgery. I have tried to go ahead and do all the housework I can do, bought some button downs and packed a bag for the hospital, picked up some quick meals to eat, and books to read for when I get home.

Also, any encouragement would be great to hear, as I am still really nervous. But I...

NEW DEFIBRILLATOR TECHNOLOGY DELIVERS LESS SHOCK

Hi All,

Interesting article on defibrillator innovation:

Defibrillator With Less of a Shock

ScienceDaily (Nov. 13, 2012) — A novel electrotherapy greatly reduces the energy needed to shock a heart back into rhythm, potentially making implanted defibrillators more acceptable to patients.

Implantable defibrillators currently on the market apply between 600 and 900 volts to the heart, almost 10 times the voltage fro...

The mechanic and the Cardiologist

A motor mechanic was removing a cylinder head from the motor of a BMW M6 when he spotted a well-known cardiologist in his shop.

The cardiologist was there waiting for the service manager to come and take a look at his car when the mechanic shouted across the garage, "Hey Doc, want to take a look at this?"

The cardiologist, a bit surprised walked over to where the mechanic was working on the BMW.

The mechanic straightened up, wiped his hands on a rag and asked, "S...

Melatonin

Just wondering if anyone knows if it's ok to take Melatonin when you are on a beta blocker or anti-arrythmic drug. I am looking for something "natural" to help with sleep. I searched online for drug interactions with melatonin and didn't find any interactions with the meds I'm on. Also curious if it could cause irregular heartbeat.....I sure don't need anything to contribute to that. :-)

Logistics

Hey everybody.

As a new member of this community I would like to ask you sty. 2 weeks ago I've got PM implanted. My sick leave is about to end on Friday. I am wondering ... do you think my work as a logistics manager which includes A LOT of phoning can be a problem. Mostly I use IP telephony but also a cell phone. During the day I can have between 200 - 400 calls. Can this be dangerous?

What do you think?

Don't listen to doctors

For 44 years I worked in the field of petroleum construction. ( building and servicing all Hess, Shell, Mobil, Chevron stations.) Everything from the underground gasoline tanks, to the canopy to the car wash, to the pumps,, you have the idea.
After having a heart attack last year and now having an ICD , my doctor said it was time to retire because I just can longer do that type of work any more. So I did retire. Stayed retired for 12 months. Found out being retired is a bunch of bull. As S...

Year of Friendships

On 2 March Brian and I are commencing a round Australia trip in our motorhome. We will leave Tasmania and travel through SA WA NT QLD NSW VIC

If there are any Aussie PM members out there who want to meet up that would be really good. Usually we stay in caravan parks or free camp but any rural folks who could offer a patch for a few nights to park on would be great. Likewise if there are any PM travellers to Tasmania we can offer a stop in the country for you if you are tra...

Timed Out...again !

Hi all. I had written a longish reply to Mantarie's question re Angiogram. So I press 'Send' and nothing happens. Next I scroll back up and see that I have been Timed Out so no Comment was recorded. This has happened a few times before and Mrs Tattoo Man has to contend with me Ranting and using language that Paul Simon sang was "Not heard in the Bible"

Any tips..?...do I scroll up and re-enter ? and will my text have already been deleted ?

PC's have a 'Draft', default...

inapprpriate sinus tach complications

I am a 31 year old who has been dealing with IST for about 3 years now. I had my third RF ablation about 2 weeks ago. This ablation left me in a junctional rhythm with rates in the high 30's low 40's at rest and up into the 60's with activity. I am feeling better than when my rates where 120-150 at rest and 200+ with activity and never dropped below 100 even sleeping, but I am symptomatic with the slow rhythm and my doctor is hoping with time my rates will improve. I have to return to my job a...

PACs

After a night in hospital for pain and SOB, I had another check up yesterday. Cardio said that I was having premature atrial beats not ventricular beats, as my ventricle was doing ok but atrium 100% paced. He now wants me to see a shrink to help me to forget that I can feel these. The thing is I don't mind them, they are just a nuisance.
He thinks that the SOB, pain and 'funny feeling' in heart is the arteries contracting ,variant angina, and since I react badly to all the appropriate...

Just to Say I am back

Hi folks

Just to say I got back on Sunday 11 November after 10 weeks away on the mainland of Australia. I missed my computer as no internet service was available to me where I was staying. I had to rely on public service points which was mighty inconvenient as I hate using a public computer for banking etc.

I have missed you all and wish to make contact with my wonderful friends again, particularly Jesse and Pookie. So if you can forgive me for the long silence, I would...

It's been a while...

Hi fellow Pacers,

It's been a while since I posted on here and whilst I keep a look out most days I have been very quiet. I had my ICD implanted around 18 months ago (cannot believe it had now been that long!) for obstructive cardiomyopathy - like every everyone else, a life changing event which I'll never forget. The good news is guys, life doesn't need to stop. Naturally, there are many diagnoses on here, and many conditions which effect each and everyone of us differently but if w...

Yesterday was my first day mountain biking after my implant. I wiped out several times and everything is fine. There are sports after pacemakers!
