I'm in a quandry

Just found this sight when I looked for info about mastectomy with pacemaker. Saw some postings from 2009. It is the day after Thanksgiving 2012 and I wondered if anyone has info that may help me.

In a nutshell: I have a pacemaker left side. I am facing a mastectomy due to a medical error. Oh well!!

That being said: I desperately need an MRI, but of course can't have one. I have been evaluated for high-risk MRI, but that option is off the table.

I have a po...

Happy Thanksgiving

That's a wish for all members, no matter where you are in the World.

I haven't seen it yet posted in here, so a quick & dirty explanation of this day for the non- American continent members who may be stumbling upon this most American holiday. There is a holiday w/ the same name & essentially identical purpose celebrated in Canada in October. I'll leave an explanation of that to our Canadian neighbors.

It is as old as our country, having been celebrated for the first time...

HAPPY THANKSGIVING IN AMERICA

The origins of candian thanksgiving are closely connected to traditions of europe than the usa. Long before europenas settled in north america festivals of thanks and celebration of harvesttook place in europe in october. The very first thanksgiving celebration took place in canada when martin frobisher an explorer from england arrived in newfoundland in 1578. He wanted to give thanks for his safe arrival in the new world. That means the first thanksgiving was celebrated in canada 43 years befo...

8 month old with pacemaker

Wow! I am new to this site and really am dissapointed I didn't know it existed until now. What a great resource and how it could have helped me a lot in my pregnancy. I didn't know there were so many people like us!
My 8 month old baby was diagnosed with complete heart block with I was 19 weeks pregnant with him. He started developing hydrops when I was 29 weeks pregnant (HR was only 30ish), so they took him by emergency c-section. He lived in the NICU at a children's hospital for the...

heart rate

My PM's name is Pete. I understand that Pete is set to make my heart pump at least 60 BPM and that works fine. But----how does Pete know to make my heart pump faster when I do some excerise? Pete is simply a small transmitter/computer.
What tells him that I am jogging?
Thanks,

Thanksgiving

It's an american thing for those that has been living under a rock.

Tomorrow will make 2 years that I found out that the left side of my heart was finished. It has been a very trying time for me and my family. Just this year, I spent 62 days in the hospital with a bunch of trips to the ER. My wife has been at my side all the way. She would never leave me along for each night I was there.

In all this trying time, back in July of this year, I had threw in the towel. I was at...

Finally Did It !!

Hi Everybody, Ya, I did it, managed to squish my 4th undermuscle PM from it's home causing lots of pain & discomfort. Dr. looked at it this afternoon & scheduled a right chest under muscle replacement this coming Monday Nov 26th.
As this will be my 5th PM since 1992 I'm not about to boast about mileage in years & days of use. My last 2 didn't make 4 years as my body didn't always cooperate. I should explain also that I got maximum hours. days & years of work with all my PMs' as I should...

Least Invasive defibrillator surgery wanted

Hello All,

I suffer from cardiomyopathy and went into congestive heart failure during the 3rd trimester of my pregnancy. I then underwent a surgery to repair leaks in two of my heart valves just a few months ago. Needless to say, I have been through a lot during the last year! Due to my decreased ejection fraction of 28%, my doctors are recommending that I have a defibrillator implanted as soon as possible. Because I am only 34, I want to minimize the scarring and visibility of th...

new & need advice please!

Hi,
Just was told I need a pacemaker. Only 54 and freaked a bit. Have had arhythmia, brady-tachhy, for several years, but first visit to Cardiologist was yesterday. Did have a pass-out accident 4 years ago caused by arrythmia, as best we can tell anyway.Luckily no one was hurt. At the time I was told by family doc that med i was taking likely was causing the arrhythmia. He wrote a note to the DMV stating the same, anad that I was no longer taking the med, and my license was reinstated. Car...

Good morning everyone

Been some time from my last post. Hope everybody is having a good day.

The last month and a half, I been in and out the hospital a few times. All due to having an infection inside my hickman tube. They took it out last Thrusday to run test on it and sure enough it was infected. Every time I flushed it or changed an IV bag, I was injecting the infection in me. I would never run a fever and all blood work cam back clean. I would come down with chills all the way to the bones and it woul...

playing with magnets

Hi, I had a small scare yesterday when my 9 year old (who has had his PM for a year and a half) told me last night he was feeling funny near his PM. He said it felt like little shocks, although he couldnt really describe it very well. He had been playing with a magnet set that someone gave him for his birthday. I had told him not to put it near his chest, although it was just a kid's toy, not industrial strength magnets!! Does anyone have any ideas on this? Could it be related? I was a bit afrai...

Fell helping hubby

Ok all I can say is Im stupid. Had a fall on Sunday helping hubby clean out the gutters on the house, was getting down from the ladder just before a major storm, hubby was on the roof, so could not catch me. I missed the last rail on the ladder and came down with a thud, sore and bruised all down my left side. I felt myself going and twisted so I would not land on my right so my buddy is fine, me on the other hand , Im blue and sore. All I can say is the darn gutters can stay blocked till later....

metal detectors

I tried to post this yesterday, but it didn't seem to make it.

I wondered about the metal detectors like you find treasures with.... right. I know they say to beware of the metal detectors like at the airports. While camping last weekend, my grandson had ours (the treasure hunting kind that is, lol) & was pretending to search every one for weapons, running it up
and down their bodies.

When he got to me, I stopped him & said I didn't think it would be a good idea. Wo...
