Advice re eating before replacement

I'm due to have my third pacemaker on Tuesday. Doc's secretary told me on Friday that I should eat a good breakfast before 7am and then go to the hospital at 10am. Due to be a day patient, all being well, and have it done under a local rather than a general. Told a friend who was horrified, and said that, as I'll have a mild sedation I shouldn't eat after midnight. WHo's right? What should I do?

getting it replaced

Since going into the '3 months' phase in which the pacemaker conserves the battery by only pacing 1 chamber, I've a lot less 'zip' than before.

I get a new pacemaker next week -- will I recover my previous energy level immediately or will it take a while?
thanks
D

I experienced pain during surgery

Yesterday (January 6.2016), I received a dual chamber pacemaker surgery while I was fully awake and it was very painful for me during surgery. I was already in pain from some kind of quite severe inflammation in my left shoulder, left arm and left shoulder blade since Christmas eve but I was coping quite well until yesterday morning before the implant without seeing a doctor. Why did I experience so much pain during surgery? I had developed a very bad infection in my left elbow back at the end of...

SURGERY ON JANUARY 7

Hi, I'm schedule to have pacemaker surgery on January 7; and I have to say, I'm getting pretty nervous. I have sinus bradycardia and my HR has been getting down into the 30's and 40's. The question I have initially is how long does it take before I will feel well enough to go back to work. My cardiologist's nurse says that I should be able to go back to work within a few days. Does that sound correct? My surgery is on Thursday, and they say I'll be able to go back to work on Monday. How lo...

growing old is not for sissies

HI everyone, I just joined this forum. I was in the hospital for chf when the hospitalist , heart doc and heart surgeon came in to my room and said I needed a pacemaker. WHAT!!!!!!. This was last wednesday and they wanted me to stay in hospital and they would do it Friday morn. I said no , I wanted to go home and either do it after Christmas or on Friday if they insisted. They did not like it, and it took a while for them to agree to me going home and back in Friday 8 a.m. for surgery.They...

Aspirin and Procedure/Surgery

They say to not take aspirin for three days before having the replacement battery procedure... three days as in Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for a Friday appointment?

I assume they would say to stop other medications, such as Imdur if there were others that would be an issue if not temporarily ceased.....

New device

Well - I survived the 3 month waiting period imposed by Anthem and received my shiny new Medtronic bi-ventricular ICD Defibrillator/Pacemaker (not sure exactly what to call it - Lol) this past Wednesday 12-16-15. The Medtronic rep assures me it is their newest "Cadillac" device. I'm an "Acura" girl so not sure the Cadillac reference added to my piece of mind.... Very pleased with how my surgery went - virtually no pain from start to finish and done in less than an hour not including recovery....

joined the club on Friday

Well on Friday I finally joined the club with a Boston Scientific 2-lead pacemaker.

Went easier than I expected and other than not being able to sleep well in the hospital feel better than I have in a long time.

Pain's not too bad - took the Vicodin the first 24 hrs and am now easing off to just at bedtime starting tonight with just Tylenol during the day.

New Member Intro: Hi I'm Amanda

Wow. Ten days ago I had never really heard of ICD's or pacemakers and now I feel like I'm my way to becoming somewhat of a newbie expert. I am 43 - was born with a congenital heart defect (transposition of the great vessels) and had the Mustard procedure for it as a baby. Since then I have done well and then in late October I felt like I was getting a bad cold. Took myself to emergency and they did chest x-ray and ECG and then told me I was likely just had a virus and sent me home. A day later a...

Week post op

Well guys it's been a week since my new friend was implanted. I feel almost back to normal. I'm finally able to sleep on my sides as long as I hug a pillow lol. Some days I have a little pain but I'm not really taking anything as its not too bad! I had my follow up appt. everything is going great! It's soooooo weird when they test your leads in the office and when they make your heart rate go up. So different haha! Just waiting for that day when I can finally lift that arm over my head! Haha hop...

1 week post implant Medtronic dual lead

42 year old female running marathons up to October of this year when I all of a sudden couldn't walk the length of myself. Was diagnosed with sick sinus and had to get the pacemaker to be able to take drugs for the arrhythmia because my resting heart rate was already too low. I am one week post op and the Incinsion site and movement is going really well. I hate the look of the lump on my chest but I can hide that under clothes. My biggest concern is that I am still feeling so crappy energy wise....
