Vasovagal

Guess I never understand why doctors have to use words I have to look up. Vasovagal simply means fainting. So, in my on going saga, I am back on the beta blocker.

While on the new blood pressure medication my heart raced to average of 100 beats per minute, but I thought my blood pressure was stable. Seems when you faint it is a sudden drop in heart rate and blood pressure.  Pacemaker helps with heart rate, not allowing my heart to stop, but does nothing for blood pre...

Dizziness

Hello everyone, hope everyone is doing great. I am 5 weeks post op from a St. Jude Crt-d. I thought I was doing great when all of a sudden I had a dizzy spell while sitting down after breakfast. I felt my heart going crazy and got very dizzy. I contacted my nurse that monitors my pacemaker and she said my pacemaker was working fine and she did not see an episode. The only thing I felt could have caused this was I had very little sleep the night before due to some unexpected company and an ear...

Are you a "maker" patient?

Has anyone in this group done something to re-design their patient experience? For example, I once met someone who built her own custom seatbelt pad to protect her pacemaker site. A more extreme example maybe that of someone who bought a pacemaker programmer to interrogate their own device. In both cases these patients sort of "hacked" the system to improve their patient experience. Have you done something similar? Please share. I am looking for examples of how creative and innovati...

Remote Monitor

It is close to a year since PM implant and use of the PM become second nature. Whenever we travel, I feel down due to dependent on having to bring a CPAP machine, remote monitor with cell transmitter, and blood pressure cuff. It is necessary to bring the remote monitor for a three or four day trip if there is no scheduled interrogation from the EP?

Still Learning

Well, this is definitely a learning experience. On the 11th of July, the cardiologist changed my blood pressure medication. Since 2012, I had been on a beta blocker. The reason for the change was that I no longer needed it since I had a pacemaker. So, sounded reasonable.

Now, having been placed on another blood pressure medication, my heart rate in the 100s. Headaches and general feeling of something not right. Emails back and forth with cardiologist and looks like the answer...

Interpertation of Pacemaker

Hey everyone, I'm John. I'm 23 and had a pacemaker placed in April of this year (2017) for Bradycardia and syncope. I received a letter from my physicians office a few days ago regarding my pacemaker interpretation for the month of June. It says that everything is normal BUT I'm having infrequent episodes of afib that was never seen before my pacemaker has been inserted.

Anyone else have the same thing happen to them?

Decided to join the club

Hi

i have made a decision to have a CRTP implanted today! I have congenital heart disease, left bundle branch block and intermittent AV second degree block. I had an ablation for atrial tachycardia last week and during the EP study they tested the confuction. I have been told I will 200% need a pacemaker in the future, what is undecided is when I might need it, 2 weeks, 2 months or 2 years. I have made the decision that in view of the fact that I will have to have one at some point...

Pacemaker Insurance

My fiance's boss has told him that the outlook for his current field with the company looks bleak, and has instead asked him to move together to another company in a different state.  The pay is supposed to be much better, but I would still probably have to find work also.  I am a teacher, but I am a high school teacher, which means that I am certified to teach a specific subject.  In my case, that is a world language, and while in my current state, almost al...

Hi new to the club!

I am so grateful to have found this site. I was asymptomatic with 2nd stage heart block a heart beat of 28 and no idea that I was so close to death. I got a pacemaker on 7/18/17 so far I have felt happy, terrified, depressed, exausted, I feel fluttering in my heart and pain and soreness in my shoulder. Reading just about every post on this site has made me cry with relief. I get it, I'm not the only one, I'm not imagining things I think that I'm pretty normal and this info is like...

Impending surgery on 27 July 2017

Hi,

i am going for a pacemaker implant on 27 July 2017 and I am 31 years old. I have supra ventricular tarchycardia (where the heart beats 200 pm due to a short circuit) first diagnosed in 2011 and went to a&e three times over a period of 5 years. Doctor recommend a procedure called catheter ablation which involves inserting few wires through the groin and into the vein to the heart, identify the short circuit and burn the short circuit. Doctor quoted a 1% risk of heart bl...

Unusual Hypotension feelings

Still having ongoing problems with arrythmias, had a 3day monitor back in Feb and the physiologist said everything was fine. However when I saw the consultant he had picked up some AT that the pacemaker failed to dtected as it was quite a slow rate.Had a treadmill test and of cause I was absolutely fine ....typical!! so we left it and I just try and get on with all I like to do. On a low dose of bisoporol which I suspect he will want to increase when we next meet.

Pacemaker Incision Site Discomfort

I was becoming concerned about the itching and mild pain at my incision site.  I read the comments made by others on this site and feel a lot better.  I will give it more time.  I have a small hypertrophic scar at the site but am not concerned about how it look.  It is about 2.5 inces by 1/8 th of an inch.  It actually looks pretty (smile).  'Make lemonade out of lemons.'

Thanks for helping me alleviate my concerns.

Good News for Xeralto and Eliquis Users

Just had my latest checkup at the Cleveland Clinic. Looks like I will be staying on a blood thinner. I'm on Xeralto. Since I have a PM and use a BT, I asked my EP about wearing a medical alert bracelet. He said he recommends it, particularly since I now on a BT. If I were not able to respond to emergency personnel, they may look into my wallet and find my PM card. He said most people don't put anything in their wallets about using a BT. In a critical situation, that could be...

Hospital ER says Afib, Pacemaker says no

I was in the ER about 10 days ago for 24 hour observation as a result of some stomach issues. While there, they had me hooked up to all kinds of monitors. On the screen, it was obvious to the doctor (I could not see it) that there was some Afib. Nothing serious but they could see indications. Today, 10 days later, I had a pacemaker (St Judes) checkup on my 6 year old pacemaker. The technician said there was no evidence of any Afib ever having occurred since installation 6 years ago. Is there...

Today's Query--% pacing??

Does having a pace maker reduce the heart's ability to beat as it would without the pace maker.  A common thought when members submit questions about 100% pacing.  My pacing went from 50% to 100% within 3 years after getting the pace maker and often wonder if the pace maker decreased  my hearts natural ability, albeit in periodic bradycardia and left bundle branch block..  What do you guys think or know about this potential effect??
