It is close to a year since PM implant and use of the PM become second nature. Whenever we travel, I feel down due to dependent on having to bring a CPAP machine, remote monitor with cell transmitter, and blood pressure cuff. It is necessary to bring the remote monitor for a three or four day trip if there is no scheduled interrogation from the EP?

Why not live dangerously ?

There must be over 5 million people with pacemakers now. The vast majority of those people don't have remote monitoring ( I am one of them )
Enjoy your travels and think how much less packing you would have to do !

I was told I didn't have to bother taking it unless I'm gone for more than a month. That answer might be different for you so ask. I pace every beat but my usage is consistent, my leads are in good shape, and my battery has a long way to go so there's nothing we are watching closely. Mine does daily quick checks, full downloads every 3 months. If I'm going to be away on a download day, I call and ask to have it rescheduled. Or sometimes I forget to call and I assume they did it another day because no one called to fuss at me.

No matter what the length of a trip, I desperately want to leave the monitor behind, but alas my wife insists on being with me.
Seriously I have a defibrillator. Have enjoyed more than my share of Jesus Jolts and resurrection from the dead. For the first 10 years I didn't have a remote monitor. But for the fact my shiny new CRT-D has one of those exploding batteries (I think they bought them from Samsung) I wouldn't have one now. Live dangerously, forget the monitor and have fun and let the PM do all the worrying.
You know you're wired when...
You have the perfect reason to show off your chest.

What I was told

If I am gone for more than a week to ten days, I should take it. Check with the people that do your PM checks for their guidance.
