as mentioned in prior post but the thing I forgot to ask was is there anything that anyone needs to be aware of regarding my PM. it's going to be an Open Proceedure--Heart Lung machine and all. Dr. knows I already have a PM but is there anything that needs to take place or settings etc. or will they take care of all that (I know they should)

Brand new (3/9/15) pacer here! This has happened so fast that I am still trying to process it all. Woke up Sunday morning from a dream that I had been shot in the chest and boy, that just didnt feel right at all. I think my description is what prompted the admitting Dr (The Contractor) to call a cardiologist (the Plumber), who wanted to keep me overnight to take one more enzyme test. 4:30 am, the nurse comes flying in, calling my name, checking my leads, and doing her best to not alarm me. B...

Well actually I've been thru it before and I guess that's the reason i'm so terrified again! I am having Open heart surgery on Tuesday for my afib! They have to do the maze procedure because they can't do the minimally invasive procedure because of the prior open heart surgery I had for my ASD repair. the good news is that they think they'll be able to get all the afib that's causing my problems and i'll be back better than new. Can I sing ....."rain drops" roses and crisp apple struddles-------...

I was supposed to have a root canal today. I made sure my endodontist knew I had a pacer implanted less than three months ago and he appropriately contacted my EP for any restrictions. No epinephrine for me, which means the novicaine won't last near as long. Make a long story short, he numbed me, started drilling, and I came off the table in excruciating pain. He slapped a temp filling over the drill hole and rescheduled me for a time he can put me to sleep. Moral of the story? Always make...

Hi,

Hi all,
I have been on this forum on and off (mostly off) for about 3 years following a sudden diagnosis of complete heart block. I am a 25 year old female. I actually didn't receive a pacemaker upon diagnosis, because I did not have many symptoms. Incidentally, I came out of complete block and am currently in first degree with periods of second degree. Over the years I have posted about once a year worrying about some new symptom that has come up, haha, and it looks like it's time fo...

For me at least has been much more positive rather than negative. I did not truly realize how bad I felt for probably a good 3-4 years before I crashed and ended up with my St. Jude buddy.
Before PM- I had problems even getting out of bed in the morning, I was late to school twice. I passed out in front of kids twice. I was too exhausted by HR that would float in the 30's to 50's to keep up with the demands of my daily teaching schedule. I looked grey and ashen all the time. The...

After seeing several new posts from new members concerning Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI), I thought I would do an update of my experiences. Your mileage may vary depending on your device.
I have had my Boston Scientific CRT-P (three-leads) for two years. I used my gas chainsaw again recently and again did not feel a thing. My electric chainsaw, 12" miter saw, 3/8 & 1/2 inch drill, metal detectors (hobby and security), metal detecting pinpointer (I do not deliberately hold it n...

I've read a few posts concerning afib. About a year ago, I was told that I had afib. I had a Medtronic dual lead PM. I just had it replaced on March 3, with a single lead Boston Scientific PM. When I met with my cardiologist, I asked him about the afib, he said that I am in afib all the time. Here's my question, I take Xarelto. It is very expensive, I just paid well over $400 for a 90 day supply. That covered my deductible, but both my husband and I are on it. I've been thinking about taking co...

With the ablation that did not go well and resulted in a PM. I sympathize with you as I am stuck with a 3 inch piece of metal in my chest that is sitting idle but for a different reason. I had exercise induced heart block while biking up steep hills last Spring. During the EP study with "physiological atrial pacing", they determined that my block was located in the Bundle of His, thus Mobitz II requiring a PM. Two weeks later, while biking uphill, I continued to have the same block. By then...

Went down to the charity yesterday to work in the woodshop. The cut crew had left over 300 aprons for the tables. We're using Kreg Pocket Screws to attach the aprons to the table tops. So that meant someone would have to use the Kreg jigs and drill 600 pocket screw holes. Drilling the pocket screw holes is a lot easier if you have someone help put parts in and run the clamps. I had a student volunteer from one of the local schools to do that. The aprons run about two pounds apiece so tha...

I have traveled twice since getting my pacemaker three weeks ago. The first time they patted me down coming and going. This time they said I could go through the non x-ray machine where one stands on the footprints, puts ones/s arms over your head and waits a few seconds while the scanner takes an image. The one that you walk through is an x-ray machine. In neither case did they do a wand scan. Is it OK to go through the non x-ray body scanner?

Hello everyone. Just a quick check-in to let you all know that I'm still around, doing well and growing old. I still run my own business, I have a new office and doing well with that.
I've taken on a new attitude of late and it has really change my life. What was that you might ask? Thank you for asking... :) I decided that I need to be the best I can be for me. I try hard to be nice, but at the end of the day it is up to me what I do or don't do. It is a very freeing way to l...

I've been counting the days since my new little friend, "Sparky" was introduced under my left clavicle. Just within the past week, my muscles around the pocket are no longer sore when I wake in the morning, the scar is no longer so sensitive and is starting to fade, and I forget about it more and more. I'm starting to feel like my old self, unless I look in the mirror. I also have a nasty scar around the area of my sternum when they retrieved my Medtronic Reveal monitor at the same time as "S...

...........Hi to all..
Last night I attended a meeting of Beat It Grantham at Grantham Hospital. The event was hosted by Mr Andrew Houghton and the topic for the evening was Syncope and Arrhythmia.
About 24 people attended and we were presented with a highly informative talk on how there are so many reasons why people can 'faint' and how there is no simple way to connect 'fainting' with the need for a device of any sort.
We were given, in understandable te...

I received my new pacemaker today. I checked into the hospital at 8:30 am, went to surgery at eleven and was on my way home at two. I feel so much better than I did before the replacement. I talked with my doctor yesterday about some concerns and had him explain about my AFib. Because I read what some of you have written, I knew what to ask. My upper heart does not beat at all, is in total afib. The lower part is 80% dependant on the pacemaker. I feel like I have a new lease on life. I had a won...

I'd just like to thank everyone who responded to my question regarding how often a pacemaker works. The last time I went to the pacemaker clinic, I asked the technician the same question. He told me it works all the time. English is his second language and I think we misunderstood one another.
