Hi,
If anyone can help with this i will be impressed!
I just had a baby who was born prematurely and is in the hospital and attached to a breathing machine that is affecting my pacemaker. Everytime i go near her/the machine, I feel like i have had too much coffee. I become jittery, and very short of breath, like someone is pushing on my chest. The machine she is on is a high frequency oscillatory ventilator. So my question is.. What do i do? Stay away from it altogether or keep a safe...

Went for my checkup Thursday and the Doc reduced my pulse by 5 bpm and turned off the rate response. I am 100% pacing. I believe he is concerned about the battery life depletion. Anyway, this reduction in bpm has left me fighting to stay warm. I did not expect this as a consequence, but it is very real. My wife says "put on more clothes". That is one of the reasons I love her like I do - such practical advice. :)

Just looking for input/advice based on your experience...
Does it matter if the incision is done horizontally or vertically? It seems most Dr's do it horizontally -is there a specific reason for that?
I have one Dr who would do it vertically -simply for cosmetic reasons...but I don't know if that is "risky" at all? Is there any one out there with a vertical incision?
Pre-Op --Does it matter if the pre-op lab work is done a couple days before OR on the same day? It s...

Hi everyone -
I'm getting close to deciding on a Dr for my PM. One of the biggest differences between 2 of the Dr's is where they put the right lead...
Dr. A would put it at or near the septum - saying this location is closer to the natural conduction of the heart, and may help prevent heart failure on the left side -due to long-term right side only pacing
Dr. B would put it at the apex- this seems to be "the standard" as far as where most Dr's place it
Is...

I had a visit with my heart failure doc today 6 weeks post op for LBBB and 30% EF. He did an EKG and saw my QRS had widened from my last post surgical QRS of 130. Pre-op it was 164.
They did a quick check of my leads and they were functioning at 100%.
Does anyone know why my QRS would widen if I'm being paced adequately?
I will call my surgeon next week. My heart failure doc was stumped and thought maybe the surgeon could reprogram my leads to tighten up the QRS. He said the surg...

Just got back from my annual check up. (I do carelink on a quarterly basis). Have had my pacemaker since October 2013. I think the Doc was somewhat surprised today that my battery life is showing 3.5 years. So he changed the voltage in one of the leads which seemed to be using a lot of power (this particular lead is in the back of the heart and he mentioned maybe having to re-position the lead at the next battery change). He also turned off the rate-response and he lowered my pacing from 70...

It was only then that it occured to my then OBGYN to send me to a Ne...

Hi! My dad went to the hospital because of atrial tachycardia I believe. The doc said he was lucky because what he has usually results in death rather quickly. After 6 days in the CCU he received a pacemaker and a defibulator and was told he in on stage 3 category D of heart failure. After surgery the pacemaker would work 3 times then on the 4th the defibulator would shock. The nurse said today that it has been quite active today so they raised the parameters to pace 8 times then shock. How effe...

And I'm wondering if it's normal to feel some discomfort in my chest. I am pretty sure it is where the leads are going through the vein, and I already know that it took the surgeon some time to find nerves in my heart that are good. I'm hoping it's just irritation in the vein⦠should I be concerned? I had the pacemaker inserted 4 days ago.

My husband had his pacemaker put in, in 2013. He signed for an experimental lead. Approximately in the summer of 2014, he started experiencing a feeling that is like cold and hot at the same time and a dull toothache-like, agonizing pain in the upper left arm. When it's really bad, it's like someone has knocked him out (he is conscious at all times). He says that it is like you are going 20 mph towards a brick wall; hitting the wall; and then, experiencing that horrible pain after hitting th...

I had a pacemaker put in early Dec. of 2014. Doctor released me back to work on Dec.29th. My release was with no restrictions as to employment. My Superintendent at Union Pacific and the Health & Wellness Dept., seem to disagree that I can go back to my job as a conductor. Superintendent (who has no medical training) says I can't return to conductor job. The Health & Wellness people say that Union Pacific has allowed employees back on trains in regions other than mine. My question is this, are t...
