For all those concerned just wanted to update you on what's going on. Finally heard from dr. office and they have scheduled me an appt. to go over the monitor results next week. I started a new diet that my daughter wanted me to go on (Herbalife) and am feeling somewhat better although right now i'm cursing spring because my allergies have kicked in full swing adding a little insult to injury but I survive!

1st diagnosed in 1960

Hi, In 1960 I was told by my family Dr that I should see a Cardio Dr cause my HR was very low, 40-45. That is when I was told I had a COMPLETE heart block (completely missing the electrical connection between the upper and lower chambers) and because of my previous style of life, it was conjenitial. Nothing was suggested to do at that time. Now jump up to 1979, when after moving to CA it was again suggested that I see a Cardio Dr. He took a very strong interest in my condition. At that time he s...

GET READY-WIRELESS COMING SOON

Interesting article in Science Daily that I thought might enjoy:

New small, wireless self-contained pacemaker appears safe and feasible for use in patients, according to a small study in the American Heart Association journal Circulation.

Although traditional pacemakers pose minimal risk, patients are still vulnerable to some short- or long-term complications, said Vivek Y. Reddy, M.D., lead author of the study and director of the Cardiac Arrhythmia Service at Mount Sinai H...

3 week check

I had my 3 week post PM implant check last week and have been cleared to resume normal activities. I think that I literally have a back-up battery now because I didn't need assistance once from my device in the last 3 weeks; current estimated battery life of 14 years. I'm wondering if this will change once I get back into my normal exercise routine.

When to drive

Just joined this club. i had an ICD Defibulator on Oct 18, 2013. I have not been released to drive yet. When my cardio doctor he stepped down my Amiodarone and Mexiltine meds. On the last day and last dose I was shocked. I had cardiac ablation on 2Jan 2014. Six weeks after the ablation I was taken off those meds again. Five days later I was shocked. I have been back on the full does. After the six weeks I had no V-Tacs. But, last Monday they informed me that I had 5 events which I didn't fe...

Pacemaker-Mediated Tachycardia

I had a RF Ablation last November! All went well although I experienced a few what I call "tremors" since then. I had a check up recently with the cardiologist and Pacemaker Technician. The result was an episode of Pacemaker-Mediated Tachycardia...A pacemaker-mediated tachycardia (PMT) can be defined as any condition in which a pacemaker paces the ventricles at rates that are inappropriately fast. This can be due to (1) a rate response setting that is too sensitive, (2) tracking of atrial noise...

ski trip

Just got back from my first ski trip since starting Crossfit. Night and day!!! Had so much fun, it's amazing how much more stamina I had than last time. I barely noticed the altitude, skied first day rather than taking it easy and waiting until the second day to get out. My oldest daughter is a speed demon, I am not. She usually takes off then waits for me at the lift line. The look on her face when she turned around to find me right behind her was priceless. She got back at me by picking a hard...

`Hi everyone. Looking for info. i read in bed. Have bad arthritis pain in both shoulders. Shoulders hurt a bunch after holding up a book for several minutes so my daughter bought me a Nook. When my shoulders get to hurting I park the reader on my chest to hold it up - Does anyone know if there is some electronic stuff in the reader that could hurt my implant from holding it so close on my chest? Thanks all. Mary

Blood pressure

I am a 43 year who had my first pm on March 18 2014. I had third degree block. I had my pm settings adjusted once to let me sleep. My blood pressure was normal before PM and now is 147/100 which I know is a little high. Dr said that happens . I also feel a small pressure in my face and head. It is not painful but more annoying. Anyone else have these symptoms after surgery?

Heartblock pain or precordial pain

We found out accidentally in February 2012 that our daughter has 2:1 (secondary degree) heartblock. She was 5+ years old at that time and is now 7+. She did not have any symptoms until recently. She has 2:1 block but occasionally she gets 1:1 (normal beat) conduction. She is healthy and active.

Since 2012 she was seen by a cardiologist every six months. Two months ago her cardiologist did 24 hour tape and exercise test. The doctor told us that she is stable and whenever she needs her...

Dr. Appt. today looks good, back to exercise

I saw the doctor today, all seems good. She took out the sutures from the pacemaker and told me I could get on my recumbent bike and pedal away and get a good workout. First time my pulse has been up to 90 in years, so the pacemaker did it's job. I felt great, no chest pain, a little sweaty so all is good. She is going to do a stress test to make sure that the A-fib was not caused by any blockages and also do an ultrasound of my neck to check for blockages there as well. She started me on Coumad...

PM Check

At the moment I am having my pm checked every 3 months because one of the leads is not working correctly, the cardiologist is happy to monitor it closely, they have changed the settings so that I am "safe". I can't seem to get much info out of the technicians. They just say nothing to worry about. Any ideas on what questions I should be asking.

Cheers Jane

Insurance Denial of "Upgrade"

Hi all,

I have a dual chamber pacemaker (100% dependent). I am in heart failure because the bottom left chamber of my heart has quit working. My cardiologist wants to upgrade my pacemaker and put in an extra lead into that chamber. I really need the surgery because I am having some pretty severe symptoms. However, my health insurance denied the procedure. Does anyone have any ideas or resources out there that could be of any help?

I had a pacemaker when I was 11. I never once thought I wasn't a 'normal kid' nor was I ever treated differently because of it. I could do everything all my friends were doing; I just happened to have a battery attached to my heart to help it work.
