Just joined this club. i had an ICD Defibulator on Oct 18, 2013. I have not been released to drive yet. When my cardio doctor he stepped down my Amiodarone and Mexiltine meds. On the last day and last dose I was shocked. I had cardiac ablation on 2Jan 2014. Six weeks after the ablation I was taken off those meds again. Five days later I was shocked. I have been back on the full does. After the six weeks I had no V-Tacs. But, last Monday they informed me that I had 5 events which I didn't feel. The primary cardiac doctor cut my Amiodarone in half. I have been released to full activity since early November. But, I still can't drive yet. Anybody respond to my situation?

I'm guessing

I'm guessing, since I don't have an ICD, they don't want you driving until they have the V-Tacs under control.
You're four to five years younger than me so I'm not sure if you are able to retire yet. Obviously driving is critical in any case.
As much as you hate it, I'd be more concerned about driving, having an episode, which could cause an accident and end up killing someone.
If it's any consolation, I couldn't drive for over 60 days. I had an "undefined" episode and was in a coma for six days. For most of those 60 days I didn't feel like driving and couldn't drive. When I did feel like driving I was still concerned I could cause an accident. Frustrating but I went along with it.
Even worse would be to have an accident, have them check with your doctor, and get a report that says you weren't cleared to drive. All sorts of ramifications.
Hope things turn around for you.

Driving

I have an ICD since July 2013 was first shocked in November and just recently received another shock last week when I was just about to re-apply for my licence in UK.Initially I was going to re-apply as my Doctor saw no reason for me to give up driving, but upon reflection and thinking as I don't even getting any warning I am about to be shocked I have decided I will not drive ever again.I know how I would feel if I caused an accident and killed anybody so I have made my decision.Obviously it is up to the individual to decide what to do.
I wish you well.
