Slower heart rate and pacemaker

When I got my pacemaker my instructions said to report it if the heart went 5 points below the setting. Nothing about if it goes higher. Now it sometimes go 20 points below the setting for short periods and stays between 90 and 120 most of the time. Is this common. ot something to be concerned about.

Doing well!

I've not been in for a long time, been really busy with organising my daughter's wedding. I've had all my annual check ups and everything is fine. I had a heart stress test recently and a nuclear scan everything came back ok. I feel really well and am now totally back to great health after my tumour and am going to the gym about 3 times a week, followed by a swim a jaccuzzi, sauna and steam room. I do hope that my post gives hope to all who are nervous about having a pm, in my early years I...

Fingernails

I never forgot the student doctors first looking at my fingernails. Did you know they can tell you a lot about your general and specific state of health including heart condition. Google comes up with quite a bit on this subject and there are some sites with example pictures. A lot more rewarding than looking for hairs in the palm of your hand !!

CI, RR turned on and back off

Pacemaker Feb 21, 2012; stamina hasn't built back up; RR turned on month ago; any exertion at all, i.e. housework, putting on clothes, etc., causes burning in the middle of my chest and rise in HR. When exertion stops, HR goes back down to 60 (pacer set to) and burning goes away. Back to pacemaker guy at cardiologist who turned RR completely off; so, back to no stamina, any exercise wears me out! Anyone had this? Thanks.

Pre PM symptoms during pregnancy

Hello,

Currently I'm 26 weeks pregnant. I had a PM put in for severe bradycardia about 6 years ago. Since I've been pregnant my cardiologist has increased my PM to min 80BPM but I still have lots of cases of difficulty breathing, lightheadedness and even loss of vision. I'm worried as the baby gets bigger this will get worse. Or even worse, more harmful for her.

I've given up exercise and even taking the stairs, but the episodes still happen on a daily basis. So far my...

Pay first

I went in for a PM check this past Thursday and my PM has reached the replacement point. Surgery was scheduled for today. Friday I received several telephone calls from the clinic's business office and was told that I had to pay my co-insurance prior to the surgery. I don't have that kind of cash so I cancelled the surgery. Have any of you had this problem? It's very disconcerting and downright brutal to be told that you can't have a life-saving procedure until you pay for it in advance.

Is it ok?

Good evening everyone. I have some concerns that I'm hoping someone much more knowledgeable than myself can help me with. As some of you know I just had surgery at the end of July. I had one 26 year old lead replaced and a new Pacer put in. My surgeon said he was not happy with me returning to my job because he feels that could have something to do with the problems I was having.
So, here's the thing. I need some solid advice on if my job could have caused the issues I was having.
I w...

Good News

I am so excited to have been accepted into a swim programme for people with on going health problems. Since getting my pm I have had more energy but my arthritis has limited the amount of excersise I have done. We have recently had a new swimming complex opened about 5 mins from where I live.
The local District Health Board have decided to give 1 year subscriptions worth $600 to help people referred by their GP, who they think would benefit by it. Its a pilot scheme, with limited number...

Getting Information

If you have a PM, or if you have one in your future you will or have been depending on the dr to be truthful with us. Well, I just finished an article in Readers Digest that may be of interest to some of you or even frightening to some. It is titled "50 Secrets Surgeons Won't Tell You" and from the Oct. 2012 issue of Readers Digest.

I'm sure many of you have or will read this article. While it is not specifically directed at pacemaker patients, we do all have surgery to get...

dreams, sleeping, slow heart at night

Hi everyone....I had my pacemaker implanted 11 days ago (for Mobitz type 1 AV block and my heart sometimes went very slow at night, down to 27 bpm).

I felt great before and still feel great!

BUT the only difference so far is that I am back to remembering all the details of my dreams when I wake up in the morning?

For a long while previously (maybe even a year or 2 or more) I had still been having dreams but as soon as I woke up I could remember nothing, apart fr...

Back from Surgery

I want to thank those who wished me well with my thyroid surgery. I am happy to report that I still have half a thyroid and my pacemaker is still sparking along. I'll get the final pathology report this week, but all indications are that the nodule was benign.

What was particularly striking to me was that the only person in the OR who really understood my pacemaker and how it works was me. The anesthesiologist asked numerous questions including what mode it went into when placed un...

PM's and Hybrid cars

I've been looking at new cars and I have a question regarding hybrid vehicles: Is it safe for those with pacemakers to drive hybrid cars, such as the Toyota Prius.

I ask this because someone told me today that these cars may interfere with the electronics in pacemakers---and I'm seriously considering a Prius V.

Hello all. I just join a few mins ago. I had my pm implanted March of last yr at the age of 31. I was awake through the whole procedure and I did pretty well. I haven't had any complication with my pm thus far. I had a complete heart blockage and I am fully dependent on my pm. I am blessed to have had my pm implanted when I did.
